Worker will perform a variety of duties related to breeding mares.Duties will include the following: remove rocks from grounds; performgeneral cleanup of farm areas; maintain/repair fencing; operate vehicle,motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the courseof performing duties; workers possessing the proper licensure may beasked to transport other farm workers; check physical characteristics,observe general condition of horses and report concerns tomanagers/trainers; assist in delivery of offspring; apply or administermedications, vaccines and/or insecticides; mix feed/additives andfeed/water horses; place mineral blocks; drive equipment tohaul/distribute feed/water; confine horses in stalls; clean/disinfecthorses stalls/corrals/sheds; wash/groom horses if needed;halter/break/care for horses; hoist/stack bales of hay onto wagon/truck.
Job duties require split shifts such 6:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to4:00 pm. Extended hours may be required during peakproduction periods. Work hours may vary and there may be periods whenlittle or no work will be available due to weather, time ofyear, and the requirements of the cropping program.
The worker may be offered work seven days a week, as farm work must beperformed seven days a week. The worker will be required, however, towork the minimum number of hours indicated in Section A / Item 6. Theworker may be offered more than the specified hours per day, but is onlyrequired to work the hours specified. The worker may be requested, butwill not be required, to work on his/her Sabbath and/or on Federalholidays.
Instruction, training, and general supervision will be provided by thefarm operator or a designated employee. However, the workermust perform required duties without close supervision and listen to,understand, and follow simple instructions of the employer orsupervisor. The worker will be required to return worn out tools,supplies, and equipment before new ones will be provided.Most duties are performed out of doors and entail exposure to heat,cold, dust, rain, and other environmental conditions common in fields,including mosquitoes during certain seasons. The worker must crouch,bend, and lift and carry items weighing up to the number of poundsindicated in Section B/Item 4.e. in the course of performing requiredactivities.
