The Sr. Specialist in the Safety Section of EH&S is responsible for the coordination, implementation and management of safety-related programs, as well as the evaluation and implementation of equipment for the protection of company employees, contractors, and the public in accordance with the Safety Strategy. This includes identifying process improvements or innovative technology/equipment by evaluating existing practices through collaboration with Operations and pursuing opportunities to introduce new approaches to reduce injuries and achieve a zero-harm environment.
Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to assist Operations and other EH&S groups in managing various safety-related programs, initiatives, and requirements.
Participate in the development, implementation and management of both targeted and company-wide safety projects, initiatives and focus areas.
Coordinate the preparation of annual safety statistics for submission to external entities (e.g. OSHA, DOL, and AGA).
Interact with internal customers of all company levels on a proactive basis. Interface effectively with regulatory agency representatives, customers, and other external parties as required and/or directed.
Manage the administration of a Safety Equipment Review process, including coordinating collaborative reviews with Operations, Research and Development and Supply Chain.
Identify improvement opportunities for reducing high-hazard injuries through process and equipment innovation. In coordination with Supply Chain and Research and Development (R&D), evaluate, pilot and implement new technology or products for use in Operations in the company.
Identify, specify, and support the procurement of safety-related equipment and services. Coordinate the management of relevant safety equipment or services purchase agreements, including invoicing and oversight of service contractors (as necessary) in accordance with company requirements.
Provide oversight and management of turnkey innovative safety projects - both internal and external; including working with contract manufacturers and licensing partners.
Engage with field personnel across company working groups to adopt new safety related tools, technologies and initiatives.
Prepare reports and supporting materials to communicate incident analyses, compliance trends, performance information, regulatory issues, and other subject matter area-specific discussion documents.
Prepare and present topic-appropriate materials to communicate safety-related information and requirements among mixed audiences that may contain field employees as well as all management levels, such as the EH&S Committee, Information Exchange and Safety Administrator meetings.
Attend industry events, forums, conferences and benchmarking opportunities in support of safety equipment or process improvement opportunities and leverage relevant information to implement at Con Edison to foster a zero-harm culture.
Participate in internal customer and external safety teams, committees, events & task forces, as directed.
Review corporate EH&S procedures and instructions on a prescribed schedule.
Demonstrate ongoing development in knowledge of safety, health, and associated operating principles, as well as the supporting sciences, technical bases, and regulatory subject matter areas.
Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with company policy and governmental regulations.
As directed, provide immediate response to incidents on a 24x7 basis and in accordance with a duty schedule; conduct/support lessons learned development.

Required Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree and Four (4) years relevant work experience Experience supporting an operational organization in a technical or EH&S capacity or
Associate's Degree and Six (6) years relevant work experience Experience supporting an operational organization in a technical or EH&S capacity or
High School Diploma/GED and Seven (7) years relevant work experience Experience supporting an operational organization in a technical or EH&S capacity
Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree Technical discipline (i.e. engineering, industrial hygiene, safety or a related field) or relevant social science.
Associate's Degree Technical discipline or relevant social science
Relevant Work Experience
Functional expertise in the technical principles of safety-related procedures, instructions and equipment. Required
Understanding of root cause analysis techniques and data analysis principles. Required
Ability to effectively interact with various levels of personnel is required. Required
Operational familiarity with the practices and requirements of Con Edison's service commodities is preferred. Required
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Preferred

Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
Ability to climb ladders and stairs
Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Other Physical Demands
Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
Maintain availability to support activities on a 24x7 basis, and in accordance with an established duty schedule.
Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, and in accordance with off-hours work schedules as needed to support customer needs and specific projects.
Must be able to travel locally and out-of-town on business related initiatives as required.
