  BAE Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer II EO/IR Subject Matter Expert (SME) and individual contributor in the field of Active Electro-Optical (EO) Systems. In this role, you will serve as an individual technical contributor and as a technical leader of our growing Systems Engineering Capability Group. This role will support engineering staffing and assist in aligning our Systems Engineering resources for the program execution of design, development, integration, implementation, test and verification/validation of EO/IR Sensor/Seeker development, in addition to supporting passive electro optical and active laser optical attack solution products across multiple business areas.

  As an individual contributor, you will be responsible for and supporting of bringing technologies to bear on next-generation military and commercial applications. You will also be delivering technical value for the program by way of supporting our active laser radar (LIDAR) and passive EO/IR Systems Engineering, Systems Analysis and System Architecture for programs ranging from Strategic Initiatives, IRAD/CRAD, research and development prototypes, EMD units and LRIP units for full rate production systems.

  As a Technical Leader, you will work with other high level engineering staff and team leaders to grow and capture our knowledge through engineering changes, lessons learned, insights, Agile Retrospectives and product/process improvements in your area(s) of expertise.

  Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  MS in EE, Physics, Lasers, Optics, Systems, or equivalentUS Citizen with active Secret clearance and eligible for Top Secret/SCI/SAP/SAR clearanceExpert in innovative active laser radar (LIDAR) infrared sensor system design, development and productionExperienced in modeling and simulation relevant to EO/IR laser radar sensors and weapon systems, including the development of high-fidelity digital system modelsExperienced in building and leading innovative, high-performance teams for technology developmentExperienced in verification and validation of Military-Specification requirementsExperienced in analyzing information that extends knowledge in the active laser radar EO/IR domain and applying this knowledge to the development of advanced concepts, techniques, products, processes or standards in active and/or passive EO sensingExperience as a technical senior advisor to Senior Leadership Teams to support program and products, technical teammates and management as well as for customers in making key technology trade-off decisionsWorking with other experienced team leaders and technical specialists in the EO/IR domain, supporting team growthStrong written and verbal communication skills including communication with internal and external management and senior-level customer representatives

  Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  Working knowledge of active sensing techniques, components, and systems across the electro optical spectrum from UV to RF; characteristics/solutions, atmospheric transmission and modeling; conduct of complex trade studies involving sensors, optical designs, link budgets, make/buy decisions, SWaP-C, and environmental constraints; including performance testing of EO components, sub-systems, and complete systemsWorking knowledge of active laser radar sensing theory, techniques, components and 2-color multispectral wavelength systems across the electro optical spectrum from NIR to LWIR; atmospheric transmission and modelingAbility to efficiently and effectively conduct complex trade studies involving sensors, optical designs, link budgets, make/buy decisions, SWaP-C, and environmental constraints, including performance modeling, simulation, demonstration and testing of EO components, sub-systems, and complete systemsAbility to drive team closure and specification compliance through commitment, cooperation & communication that include the technical team, the leadership team, the stakeholder team and the customer(s)Working knowledge of Digital Systems Engineering modeling & simulation techniques using tools such as MATLAB, DOORS, Simulink, MagicDraw, Ansys, Code V/Zemax, NVThermIP/NV-IPM and methods such as AS-9145 (DFMEA & PFMEA), Agile, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA)Working knowledge of Systems Engineering and life cycle processes stages (such as waterfall, spiral, agile/scrum and Vee) and process milestone execution decision gating reviews (such as Systems Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review & Test Readiness Review)Experience working & contributing independently with limited supervision and interacting effectively with other technical team-mates to achieve product and process technical goals while inspiring technical excellenceArchitect, develop Concept of Operations (ConOps) and requirements, design, model, analyze, and test electro-optical (EO) infrared (IR) systems, subsystems and components (including COTS items) used in a variety of active and passive sensing solutions to military/commercial applicationsDigital Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML), Model Based Agile Engineering (Value Driven Digital Threads) and Agile Mindset principle, practices & processes and tools & techniquesAgile mindset, including familiarity with Agile process, language and nomenclature, to support driving ROI by delivering reliable results on knowledge programs while dealing with technical complexity and uncertainty to unleash personal and team creativity boosting performance, value and collaborationExperience supporting inter and multi-disciplinary teams consisting of mechanical, electrical, optical, software, and systems engineersINCOSE CSEP Systems Engineering process, language and nomenclature preferred

  Pay Information

  Full-Time Salary Range: $136620 - $232210

  Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
