NACDD’s core membership is composed of 59 state and territorial health department chronic disease directors and their staff who protect the health of the public through primary and secondary prevention efforts and work “upstream” on root causes of chronic conditions. In addition, NACDD unites 7,000 chronic disease professionals across the United States working in state, tribal, and territorial health departments, nonprofits, academia, and the private industry to promote health and to reduce the burden of chronic disease. POSITION SUMMARY
The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is seeking to fill the role of the Senior Director of Programs. Under the direction of the Chief Program Strategy Officer (CPSO), the Senior Director of Programs provides strategic leadership and support for all aspects of NACDD programs. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, implementing, leading, and controlling all program management activities. This position is responsible for oversight and management of all assigned program staff and consultants to include portfolio manager positions and other positions related to grant maintenance and compliance.
This position will lead the overall management of all NACDD project portfolios and ensure alignment in processes and protocols. The role will oversee management of the grants reporting and submission process for all NACDD awards. Continuing partnerships with Finance, PMO, and other NACDD departments is required to coordinate cross departmental communication, establish protocols for common business practices, and ensure protocols are reasonable, communicated, and followed. In addition, this position will manage quality improvement processes to ensure workplan deliverables are met, the impact is documented, and will utilize project management software to communicate with leadership about program status and progress.
Lastly, the Senior Director of Programs will support the CPSO in meetings with funders, partners, program staff, and other areas where needed. The Senior Director will apply strategic thinking for growth opportunities and will support other program management staff with guidance and direction for program implementation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Participate in the direction and implementation of the Association’s strategic plan and the programmatic strategic vision.
Monitor and analyze the various facets of projects, assuring the proper integration into the overall mission;
Collaborates with other NACDD leadership teams to ensure effective and efficient program delivery;
Lead grant application submission and other proposals for varying funding. This includes but is not limited to writing, compiling of information, and/or coordination of activities;
Assists in development of funding proposals seeking support from philanthropic organizations, foundations, and other organizations to support expansion of program resources and collaboration;
As a member of the Senior Leadership team, collaborate with the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams to maintain the long-term financial sustainability of the Association, ensure that the program operates within the approved budget, and maintain a system for sound fiscal and project management in conjunction with the Finance Department and Project Management Office (PMO);
Lead in the preparation of reports (written reports, oral presentations, or postings on websites) for Senior Leadership at NACDD and work with personnel to develop their required reporting for the CDC;
Under the leadership of the CPSO, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team at CDC including the CDC Project Officer/Technical Monitor teams;
Supervise all assigned personnel, including NACDD project staff, consultants and internal/external stakeholders to promote communication, collaboration and unity within NACDD program work;
Attend project/program meetings and events, sometimes requiring travel; help provide oversight and leadership when the event is directly tied to NACDD program deliverables;
Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary to achieve program’s goals and objectives.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Master’s degree in public health, public health administration, or related field;
Minimum of 10 years of experience in public health with specific focus on chronic disease prevention and health promotion;
Must have previous experience working with CDC programs that support community-based programs and population-based strategies;
Expertise in program design development and implementation;
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and program teams;
Demonstrated experience in leading and working in a cross-functional collaborative team environment, building and fostering relationships and promoting team spirit;
Strong project management, evidence-based decision making, prioritization, and planning skills, with demonstrated success producing high-quality deliverables on time and within budget;
Excellent multitasking skills and problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions;
Ability to adapt to unexpected situations;
Experience seeking and securing funding for non-profit organizations;
Expertise in developing and managing contracts and federal cooperative agreements;
Proven capacity in managing multiple and complex grant opportunities as well as preparing grant applications;
Manage multiple and complex vendor contracts and partnerships;
Exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate effectively orally and written to a wide range of professionals at different levels, internally and externally, listening attentively;
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions clearly and comprehensively from all levels of management, NACDD members and consultants and strategic partners;
Understand the importance of keeping current industry or subject matter expertise;
Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Zoom;
Must be able to master technologies and software applications and experienced with leading virtual trainings;
Must have served in an AD role for at least 3 years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Prior Association or other not–for-profit experience is preferred;
Effective communication and organizational skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, staff and consultants and Board of Directors.
Strong project management, prioritization, and planning skills, with demonstrated success producing high-quality deliverables on time and within budget.
Able to take direction well and able to establish and maintain professional credibility and diplomacy; ability to maintain high-level of professionalism and integrity.
Experience with Smartsheet and Microsoft Teams is preferred.
LOCATION:
REMOTE/HYBRID – Must be available to travel to the NACDD office in Atlanta as needed;
Preferably located in one of the following states: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia*, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, or Washington;
Other periodic travel required for this role to attend/lead programmatic events offered across the country;
*All Atlanta-based employees will be required to work in the HQ office on a hybrid schedule, beginning January 2024.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Approximately 10-20%SALARY RANGE:
