rAbout This Role:
Extension agents are professional educators, community connectors andinnovators who serve as a link between Kansas State University andcommunities across Kansas.
The Southwind District is comprised of Allen, Bourbon, Neosho andWoodson counties in southeast Kansas. The population of the district is46,084.
The district is home to Neosho County Community College, Allen CommunityCollege, and Fort Scott Community College, as well as ten public schoolsystems.
Southwind District staff are housed in four office locations. The staffconsists of eight agents, two program assistants and four specializedoffice professionals.
This agent will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation ofresearch-based educational programming related to nutrition, foodsafety, and health. Programming may include but is not limited to:nutrition through the life cycle; supplemental nutrition education; foodsecurity; consumer and food handler food safety; local food systems;physical activity promotion; and chronic disease prevention.

Duties/ Responsibilities:
Extension agents are professional educators, community connectors andinnovators who serve as a link between Kansas State University andcommunities across Kansas. Agents are jointly responsible to thedirector of K-State Research and Extension (represented by a designatedadministrator) and the local extension board.
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation ofresearch-based educational programming related to nutrition, foodsafety, and health. Programming may include but is not limited to:nutrition through the life cycle; supplemental nutrition education;food security; consumer and food handler food safety; local foodsystems; physical activity promotion; and chronic diseaseprevention.Share responsibility for 4-H youth development programming relatedto nutrition, food safety and health.Share responsibility for community vitality programming that helpsour communities become better places to live, work, and play.Programming will strengthen social, civic, economic, andtechnological capacity of communities through leadership developmentand civic engagement.Successful extension programs require agents to:Identify local needs and emerging issues related to K-StateResearch and Extension's five Grand Challenges (water andnatural resources; community vitality; health; developingtomorrow's leaders; and global food systems) by engaging withpro ram development committees and other community organizationsand professionals.Design appropriate educational strategies to engage clientele.Strategies might include educational programming in acommunity-based setting; events and activities that provideexperiential learning opportunities; use of innovativetechnologies; individual educational consultations; and groupfacilitation.Collaborate with local partners to meet community andprogramming needs.Develop and implement strategies to serve diverse audiences andto ensure K-State Research and Extension is an equal opportunityprovider of educational programming.Collect and communicate evidence of educational program impact.Cultivate expertise in a subject matter competency area byengaging as a member of the Nutrition, Food Safety and HealthProgram Focus Team.Pursue internal and external funding to support educationalprogramming.Serve as a member of the Southwind District team, cooperating in theplanning and delivery of district-wide programming and relatedevents.What You'll Need to Succeed:
