  Description

  Water/Wastewater Practice Leader — South Region

  This position is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of the South Region Water Practice. This includes the municipal water/wastewater, industrial water/wastewater, and water resources market areas, and consists of TX, OK, AR, LA, MS, and AL. The position will build upon the team in the Region and grow the practice dynamically and profitably based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service. Specific areas of responsibility include the following:

  Represent the South Region on the BMcD water/wastewater strategic planning team to develop the BMcD Water/Wastewater Strategic Plan.

  Facilitate the creation of a South Region Water/Wastewater Strategic Plan in alignment with the BMcD Infrastructure Strategic Plan and South Region Plan.

  Identify target clients for BMcD water/wastewater focus.

  Assemble a team that will do the following in support of growing the practice:

  Own the profit and loss statements for the Region.

  Serve as Client Director for target clients — client director’s take primary responsibility for the ultimate delivery of services and client satisfaction.

  Create and cultivate key relationships within target client organizations.

  Develop a client service plan with a vertical relationship plan for the target client organizations.

  Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with regional and practice leadership.

  Facilitate strategy development to pre-sell projects before RFP release.

  Lead or facilitate proposal development for project pursuits.

  Lead contract negotiations.

  Grow a successful water/wastewater design-build practice.

  Develop key relationships with key JV partners.

  Recruit key project staff with design and management capabilities.

  Build and develop a great team — define an organization and work with office leadership to build a multidisciplinary team to deliver water/wastewater services to target clients.

  Assist in developing and administrating marketing and client maintenance monthly and annual budgets.

  Develop and implement South Region project execution quality and financial controls specific to water/wastewater projects.

  Conduct routine project management training and champion employee development.

  National Advocate for the Water/Wastewater Design-Build Practice

  In addition, this position is responsible for assisting in strategically advancing Burns & McDonnell’s Water/Wastewater Design-Build Practice. Specific areas of participation as an advocate of the Water/Wastewater design-build practice include working with Dave Kinchen, CDB Lead for Water, on the following:

  Part of the national leadership team within the practice focused on developing, implementing, and achieving practice goals across all regions.

  Assist in developing a long-term water/wastewater design-build strategic plan.

  Identify, develop, and direct the implementation of business strategy for the practice, including operational strategies and procedures, marketing and pricing strategies, and sales and customer retention strategies.

  Build a close working relationship with the Construction Design Build (CDB) Global Practice Leadership. Collaborate to leverage existing design-build capabilities to grow the water/wastewater design-build practice

  Ensure thorough risk review utilizing BMcD resources for any design-build opportunity under consideration.

  Champion sales and marketing activities. Work with offices to identify opportunities and manage team efforts for submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiation, and related activities.

  Ensure profitable and sound growth. Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

  Ensure quality and safety standards.

  Adhere to the Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  Responsible for maintaining the Burns & McDonnell Safety program.

  Participate in go/no-go evaluations, ensure the establishment of project work plans and review fee estimates.

  Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

  Complies with all policies and standards.

  Measures of Performance: (these performance measures will be quantified in cooperation with the South Region Manager, Water/Wastewater Practice Leader, CDB Practice Leader, and the General Manager of the Regional offices).

  Safety metrics and safety culture development.

  Attainment of yearly sales, revenue, and income goals for the South Region Water/Wastewater practice.

  Growth of South Region Water practice based on sales, revenue, income, and staff size.

  Successful profitability on projects.

  Attract, hire, develop, and retain the best people into BMcD.

  Acquisition of design-build projects and the development of a successful design-build practice.

  Acquisition of program management projects and developing a successful program management practice.

  Customer experience scores.

  Qualifications

  Bachelor Degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program and

  Minimum of 10 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the consulting engineering industry or project management. Required

  Expert experience in client and business development.

  Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.

  Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills.

  Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.

  Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.

  Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.
