Job Description Summary: This position will focus on software engineering for geospace simulations. The primary responsibilities will be to support repository utilization, computational workflows, and model testing for components of the Multiscale Atmosphere Geospace Environment (MAGE) Model especially the Thermosphere-Ionosphere-Electrodynamics General Circulation Model (TIE-GCM).
This will include the development of workflows for running on High Performance Computing (HPC) systems including those at NCAR and NASA.
Additional effort will be spent on the development of Python scripts and JupyterHub notebooks for analyzing model output.

What You Will Do
Here is a summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Performs installation and maintenance of numerical models on a variety of HPC systems.
Assists in the development and maintenance of version control and documentation for models.
Development of Python and JupyterHub notebooks for data visualization.
Performs various routine computational and maintenance tasks.

Education & Experience REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field;
or equivalent combination of education and progressive relevant experience (e.g. Associate’s degree and four years’ experience).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities REQUIRED:
Knowledge of computer science principles, software design methodologies, and implementation techniques
Proficiency in writing and modifying scientific codes, especially Python and Jupyter Notebooks
Experience contributing to open-source projects
Strong written and oral communication skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired but Not required:
Experience working on HPC architectures
Expertise working with large data sets
Experience in programming in FORTRAN
