Amazon GuardDuty is a customer facing threat detection service that is built to protect applications and services running on AWS. The service applies data analytics to high volume service logs and employs techniques, such as machine learning and anomaly detection, to identify potential threats. We are looking to hire a technical lead engineer for our data analytics and processing team. We are innovating new ways of building massively scalable and globally distributed security systems for assisting our customers with security and compliance. The team interacts with Math PhD's and security researchers to codify security analytics into the service. The researchers use various Machine/Deep Learning algorithms to build new detection for the service.
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. This role is based out of Seattle office. We generally keep core in-office hours from 10am to 4pm. About half of us come in earlier and the other half of us stay later.
Key job responsibilities
You must enjoy working on complex software systems in a customer-centric environment and be passionate not only about building good software but also ensuring that the same software achieves its goals in operational reality. You will have strong knowledge of distributed systems to develop a new and innovative security service. The scope of influence for this role spans across multiple scrum teams. As a technical lead, you will provide technical directions to these teams, design and built technical systems and provide mentoring to other engineers. This is an ideal role for someone looking to lead a team that solves complex high-throughput streaming machine learning big data system challenges at AWS's global service scale. If you are interested in working alongside world-class engineers to build and operate machine learning models in production at massive scale, then this role is for you.
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

About the team
GuardDuty is a threat detection service that detects unauthorized, malicious, or anomalous activity in a customer’s AWS environment. One of the key features of the service is its simplicity: You just turn it on and it goes to work to identify threats and anomalies. The service helps customers identify reconnaissance, suspicious access, stealthy discovery, attacks, and changes to security critical settings.

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
