About Software Development Engineer, AWS Kubernetes, EKS core Kubernetes team

  Description

Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) team in AWS is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join core Kubernetes team to build and ship services that focus on advancing the capabilities of Kubernetes to deliver a seamless and powerful container orchestration experience. As a Software Development Engineer at EKS, you will get to learn and contribute to the massive scale supported by AWS and enhance customer experience across the globe. You will influence the way services are developed, provide best practices guidance and architecture feedback.

The ideal candidate is excited about the incredible opportunity that EKS represents, and is passionate about delivering high quality services in a hyper-growth environment. As a member of our team, you'll collaborate with outstanding engineers and leaders to refine product requirements with product managers, define architecture, and take a leadership role in the implementation and launch of software. All team members actively participate in planning, product definition, technical architecture review, iterative development, code review, and operations. Along with this, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with enterprise customers to ensure their needs are met -- clear, professional communication with teammates and customers is an important part of the job.

  Work/Life Balance:

Our team believes in maintaining the right work/life balance. We understand the importance of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, and we strive to create an environment that fosters productivity while respecting personal time. Join us in building cutting-edge technologies and making an impact in the container orchestration space, all while enjoying a fulfilling and balanced professional life. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of container orchestration, thriving in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, and wanting to contribute to the future of Kubernetes, we encourage you to apply and be part of our talented team at EKS.

  Key job responsibilities

Architect, develop, and maintain core Kubernetes controllers running in Kubernetes control plane.

Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment, monitoring, and maintenance processes for the services owned by the team.

Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions.

You limit the use of short-term workarounds. You do things with the proper level of complexity the first time (or at least minimize incidental complexity).

You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when it is appropriate to use them (and when it is not). Your solutions are pragmatic.

Collaborate with the Kubernetes open-source community to drive improvements and ensure alignment with industry best practices.

Provide mentorship and knowledge sharing within the team to facilitate a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.

  About the team

We are an innovative, cross-platform, customer-obsessed team, working on big-bets in an innovative environment. Our organization rewards intellectual curiosity while maintaining the direct to market product focus. Our mission is to invent and simplify large-scale solutions and bring the future to Amazon customers.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  Seattle, WA, USA

  Basic Qualifications

2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.

Proven experience in software development, with a focus on distributed systems and container orchestration.

Basic knowledge of Linux systems and operating system internals

  Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Contributions to the Kubernetes open-source project.

Knowledge of container runtime internals and/or operators in Kubernetes.

Experiencing mentoring junior software development engineers and driving engineering excellence
