　　What you will do

　　Responsible for creating high-quality craftsmanship-level software for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt clients and internal users. This includes meeting all requirements/specifications, testing/QA requirements, methodologies, and other Houghton Mifflin Harcourt software/ product requirements.

　　Responsibilities

　　Write high quality, highly performing code that meets business objectives and architectural standards.

　　Develop and test program components in accordance with adopted standards.

　　Ensure the quality of the source code and conducts source code peer review.

　　Create realistic design specification documents from software requirements.

　　Provide task estimates to project manager and the development team.

　　Work with Database Administrators and System Architects to identify areas for optimization.

　　Work closely with assigned leads on projects to accomplish tasks.

　　Participate in requirements, design, and code reviews, and plan and perform development tasks from design specifications .

　　Construct and verify (unit test) software components to meet design specifications.

　　Utilize established standards, guidelines, and procedures in development

　　Troubleshoot and design fixes for technology problems.

　　Analyze integrity of data imported from external sources.

　　Identify and fix programs that do not conform to business rules.

　　Develop ad-hoc queries/programs as needed to resolve problems/questions.

　　Identify opportunities to develop interfaces for others.

　　Analyze and understand current application structures and apply new functionality within prescribed frameworks.

　　Develop processing code and procedures.

　　Develop ad-hoc programs/queries as needed by internal groups.

　　Promote agile processes among development and the business, including facilitation of scrums.

　　Provide production support to internal departments.

　　Provide guidance to the junior Software Engineer positions.

　　What you will need

　　Position Requirements:

　　Bachelor’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Computer Science or a closely related field; and 5 years of progressive experience in a software development role. Experience, which may be gained concurrently, must include each of the following:

　　5 years of experience working across multiple tiers of an application, including a database, network, operating system, and containers.

　　5 years of experience demonstrating object-oriented design & programming skills, including the application of design patterns and avoidance of anti-patterns.

　　5 years of experience working in a collaborative team of application developers and source code repositories.

　　3 years of experience in the educational assessment industry.

　　2 years of experience utilizing SQL, Powershell, C#, .NET, Python and AWS services.

　　2 years of experience applying software design concepts in a development role.

　　2 years of experience designing a major component of a software application.

　　2 years of experience utilizing software development methodologies.

　　1 year of experience working in an AGILE environment.

　　1 year of experience working in a SCRUM environment.

　　May work remotely from any location in the U.S.
