The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position manages the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). The incumbent travels to eleven (11) Tribal communities in rural Nevada two weeks out of every month and conducts food distribution and client eligibility determinations, which includes interpretation, explanation and application of federal program regulations in processing eligibility applications. The incumbent is responsible for the distribution of commodity food boxes to households and nutrition education to clients; program inventory management, including ordering product, inventory management, tracking food received, and reporting usage each month through the federal reporting system. This position may also assist with the management of other nutrition and food assistance programs as needed. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of paraprofessional experience which included providing social services, medical assistance programs services, or health care services to the public and required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR two years of experience as a Family Services Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Special Notes
The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required.Special Requirements
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.The Examination
