ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Enterprise HR Business Partner Lead for East Asia, the Senior Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as the HR Lead for Japan and partner with the Nielsen Japan business.
The HRBP will provide strategic and operational guidance to employees and managers on all areas of HR support in the country and will ensure best-in-class HR practices, as designed by our COEs, are deployed to the country and adjusted where necessary. The HRBP will be accountable for compliance with all employment laws and regulations in the region and will also partner with the Global HRBP to provide input and align People's actions with the larger Business Unit-specific talent strategies.
The role is hands-on and successful individuals will be people and business-focused, exhibit strong trust and accountability and are able to work in an ad hoc and fast-changing & challenging environment.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable for providing effective HR service delivery and operations in Japan.
Partner with Japanese business leaders and be a member of the East Asia HR Team.
Particular emphasis is on the delivery of HR activity where region, country or local context is required.
Accountability for local deployment & delivery of HR processes, projects and change programs as determined at a Corporate/business/functional level. Including policy and procedural compliance across the area and responsibility for Diversity and inclusion deployment, monitoring and compliance.
Advise, coach and partner with leaders in the implementation of company policies, procedures and best practices to ensure effective and consistent management of personnel.
Provide effective employee relations and a positive working climate locally.
Manage local components of projects and wider change programs.
Interface with our global/regional Centers of Excellence (Talent Acquisition, Compensation and benefits, Talent, Engagement & Development) to ensure a consistent approach to Employment Value Proposition, Culture, Leadership and Engagement initiatives across the Region.
Identifies, designs and delivers country-specific in the areas of onboarding, employee relations, total rewards, benefits, compensation, learning, engagement, and internal communications.
Work closely with Regional HR Leader and other local HR Leads to identify, streamline & provide effective & optimized HR services.
Partner with the local Corporate Functions (Finance, Legal, Integrity, Real Estate) to ensure integration of HR operations and policies into the larger regional and country-specific operational needs, such as budgets, compliance, regulatory requirements, and so on.
Ensures all practices adhere to the utmost integrity and compliance in all regulatory matters.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, law or related field
8-12 years of Human Resources experience, across different aspects of the HR function for large and/or multinational company
At least 5 years of experience in a generalist capacity providing support across a variety of HR sub-functions to a distributed group
Broad knowledge of HR best practices across Employee Relations, Reward, Resourcing, Development, and Employment Law
Knowledge of Japanese employment laws, regulations, procedures, and HR issues
Broad change management skill set, combined with the ability to apply project management principles to deliver and support organizational change
Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations, as well as handle multiple competing priorities
Proactive problem solver, ability to make day-to-day decisions, resourceful, demonstrates initiatives, has a can-do attitude
Willing to learn by doing in fast-growing environment by leading and/or participating in various local/regional/global projects
Has a strong mindset with resilience

Experience managing Employee Relations issues
Experience with payroll vendor management/managing outsourced in-house payroll specialist (preferred)
Experience in Global HR transformation (preferred)
Experience in a fast growing organization (preferred)
Solid IT skills, including use of SAP or other similar HR databases, MS Office and GoogleSuite
Excellent oral and written communication skills with different levels in the organization
Fluent in English and Japanese
