About Shipping and Receiving Clerk

  Summary : This position is primarily responsible for verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties personally or thru subordinate supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Warehouse Area: Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. Conveys materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code. Sorts and stores perishable goods in refrigerated rooms. Fills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to production workers or assembly line. Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department. Marks materials with identifying information. Opens bales, crates, and other containers. Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed. Weighs or counts items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to company standards. Arranges stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workers. Prepares parcels for mailing. Uses computer to enter records. Regularly make inventory transactions in Epicor ERP Schedule freight and parcel shipments Organize and fill out required shipping documents including, but not limited to SLIs, BOLs, etc. Compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications. Shipping and Receiving Area: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Determines method of shipment. Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers. Inserts items into containers. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. Facilities Maintenance: Maintains physical facilities including, where required, working with contractors to provide estimates and services. Replaces bulbs, HVAC filters, airline filters, water filters, etc. as required or prescribed. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on general equipment (air compressors, air handlers, forklifts, material handlers, etc.) as assigned. Maintain facility cleaning schedule, including coordination with any contractors. Coordinate Safety Checks as scheduled on forklifts, fire extinguishers, smoke/fire alarms, eye-wash stations, A.E.D., emergency lighting, exit signs, etc. COMPETENCIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Analytical - Synthesizes complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data; Designs work flows and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order Processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Pallet Jack licensing and/or certification PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is carried out indoors in an office environment or on the manufacturing floor, when performing tasks related to production, such as process documentation. ​​​
