The Shelter Staff are responsible for the safety and well-being of program guests. Shelter Staff provide a welcoming and compassionate setting, ensuring the confidentiality of guests and treating them with dignity. Other duties, assigned roles, and responsibilities include: working cooperatively with other Shelter Staff and under the direction of the Shelter Manager; maintaining compliance with all organization and program policies, rules, and procedures fairly and impartially; maintaining accurate and objective documentation of incidents, notable behavior, and other shelter events according to program policy; regularly read staff logs and other documentation on shelter events and trends; check in guests and inspect personal property for illicit materials; register, supervise, and assign roles to volunteers on an ongoing basis; perform regular rounds to ensure the safety of shelter property; assign chores to guests and assist with chores and clean up as needed; receive and maintain shelter inventory cleanly and orderly, contacting Shelter Manager at the appropriate times for replenishment of supplies; and be able to work all assigned shifts.
Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; 2+ years of college education in a human services related field or work experience in a social services setting or lived experience with homelessness; experience working with the homeless population a plus; must be able to work under pressure and be able to work independently; bilingual/Spanish preferred; must be able to lift and carry 25lbs and be able to maintain regular, punctual attendance. Some early morning and daytime shifts, mostly night and overnight shifts.
