  Position Summary

  Provides technical construction, maintenance, equipment, and computer applications training to Transmission Relay employees. Training support for craft new hire process, conducts benchmarking with industry groups/peer utilities, negotiates training priorities and secures resources for critical training tasks, evaluates overall training program effectiveness, and conducts field assessments to validate adherence to training standards. Provides evaluations/testing of skills and knowledge required to progress through various apprenticeship programs. This position is responsible for oversight and governance of compliance training for employees within the Transmission organization. Provides skill assessments of craft performers and problem resolution for various craft processes. This position also assists local management in areas such as job site safety/training audits and assisting in all necessary follow-up to audit findings. This position provides technical support, evaluation and feedback to craft performers, C&M Management, Transmission Standards, Transmission Tools and Work Methods, EH&S, and contractors. Position must have the ability to lead, plan, determine priorities, problem solve and provide solutions and prescribe the processes needed to achieve objectives within the framework of the organization's operating policies.

  Responsibilities and Duties

  Ensures adherence of compliance and skills training and assists in the implementation of Safety processes.

  Develop, deliver, and administer overall training programs.

  Establish training standards and consistency across business groups and zones.

  Administers Training Delivery Prioritization Model – gain consensus of business group’s priorities.

  Negotiates training priorities and secures resource commitment for critical training tasks.

  Performs program evaluations to validate overall training effectiveness.

  Develop and deliver continued educational training for technical employees as it relates to industry trends.

  Demonstrates expertise in a wide range of training products and services which support Business Unit, Departmental and Team goals. Serves as an internal expert in a discipline specific/task-based area.

  Provides advanced expertise and innovation in the research, design, analysis, and administration of assigned function(s) to support the achievement of business objectives of assigned customer area(s).

  Assures adherence to compliance training calendar and performs subject matter training.

  Supports the execution of Safety/Health Program, i.e., fall protection, switching and tagging electrical, rubber gloves, operator qualifications, regulatory compliance, FR clothing, ladders, dielectric equipment testing, fire extinguishers, confined spaces, work zone, recordkeeping, hazardous communications, asbestos, lead, personal protective equipment, and blood borne pathogens.

  Assist in the implementation of safety processes through training, safety, and environmental improvement plans.

  Active role in Jurisdictional/Zone Safety councils and committees.

  Designs and administers training products and services for assigned projects to enable achievement of Company and business unit goals and support compliance with customer training needs.

  Communicate with and coach/train performers on technical issues to assure proper application of standards, policies, and procedures.

  Performs field observations to validate training effectiveness and integrate observations into improved curriculum.

  Performs assessments to validate procedural adherence to the training standards.

  Authorize/certify performers meet required qualifications and remain qualified to conduct highly skilled work tasks.

  Instills safety values and beliefs as new employees are on-boarded, and behavioral validation during subsequent training activities.

  Deliver classroom, hands-on and one-on-one training for technical issues.

  Facilitates coaching and feedback to technical employees throughout training sessions to ensure training requirements/standards are met.

  Provide reports/feedback/evaluations to field management based upon training observations of skills by employee/student.

  Responsible for SME support to technical employees regarding new polices/procedures.

  Consulted for input when promoting performers through the training progression.

  Lead in facilitation of testing/evaluation performed to determine promotion through the training progression.

  Diagnose, analyze, and resolve on-site issues regarding Transmission design, construction, and operation.

  Provide leadership for change to assure continued improvement of processes and performers.

  As on-site leader, provide supervision and make critical/immediate decisions while students/employees perform their assigned training tasks and school objectives.

  Participant for Craft New Hire Process

  Serves as project leader for complex training projects in accordance with Business Unit processes Assist/provides technical input for proposal development.

  Effectively plans, schedules, coordinates, and monitors the activities of project team members and negotiates resources as needed.

  Ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget and in accordance with business needs and customer objectives.

  Monitors status and progress of projects and makes necessary adjustments to plans and schedules and initiates project close-out.

  Makes recommendations and presentations to management and manages the communication and implementation of recommendations.

  Conducts benchmark studies with other learning organizations to improve performance.

  Remains updated to date of current and emerging training practices, trends and methods and ensures their application as appropriate.

  Attends industry and company-sponsored seminars and conferences; exchanges information with governmental, academic, and training professionals; research appropriate journals and periodicals.

  Performance and Corrective Action Programs by investigating, reviewing, and communicating events, participating in RCAs and implementation of corrective actions.

  Delivers training that upholds management expectations and cultural standards.

  Stays current on developing standards, technologies, and processes by interacting with Company staff, continued improvement of personal skills, and thorough knowledge of existing technical standards and policies: including tools and equipment, compliance training, technical manuals, computer applications and data resources.

  Provides expertise and communication for cross jurisdictional peer teams (i.e., Peer Review team, Best Practices team).

  Consults with and actively interacts with field management, facilities consistency related to safety rules and work practices.

  Provides leadership and assistance with outage restoration activities.

  Prepares evaluation documentation of recommendations for students and Supervisors at completion of promotional classes.

  Basic Requirements:

  High School/GED

  Minimum of 2yrs experience in Technical Training

  3yrs of Substation Relay Experience

  Valid Driver’s License

  Desired Qualifications:

  Associate degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent).

  5yrs of experience in Technical Training

  10yrs. of Substation Relay experience

  Possesses knowledge and experience with Transmission related computer applications.

  Completion of a Training Certification Program

  Knowledge and significant experience of Transmission Relay Construction and Maintenance.

  Demonstrated ability utilizing safety and Work Methods/Procedures/Standards

  Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead others through change.

  Self-directed team member

  Demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills for communicating information and addressing issues in a clear and effective manner to varying levels of employees and management.

  Demonstrated leadership abilities to influence and provide direction to team members and to advise management of team members’ performance and project status.

  Working Conditions

  Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.Specific Requirements
