Job Description: SUMMARY: This position is responsible for preparing financial statements and reports, ensuring timely filing with the required authorities and investors. The senior accountant will be analyzing complex financial records and reports as they oversee and maintain the General Ledger integrity and accuracy (input, posting and reconciliations) complying with GAAP, GASB, Federal, Local, State laws, and CMHA policies and guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. • Lead the month end and year end close process with guidance from the Accounting manager/supervisor ensuring appropriate and accurate accruals. • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts assigned in a timely manner. • Research and resolving account discrepancies, audit findings and issues of non-compliance. • Oversee and maintain integrity of General Ledger posting and activities. • Prepare financial and management reports including variance analyses • Take ownership of mandatory reporting requirements of the agency and ensure timely error free regulatory and investor related filings. • Assist the Accounting manager/supervisor with budget preparations and monthly variance analyses • Research and document financial related issues; • Prepare all financial data and enter into prescribed portals and ensure balancing and tie-out; • Assist during Audits with preparation and documentation of workpapers, supporting schedules and auditor request follow ups. • Maintain banking relationships for accounts responsible for and lead in issue resolution for any anomalies and ensure compliance with covenants. • Keep up to date with technical accounting pronouncements, analyze their impact to the agency and communicate implementation and compliance timelines. • Stay abreast of all industry guidelines as it relates to the financial operation and ensure understanding of others within the agency; • Ensure all accounting functions have updated and accurate standard operating procedures, making changes where necessary; • Own the Sr Accounting role and collaborate with our internal and external business partners providing guidance as it relates to technical accounting. • Perform other duties as assigned DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each competency satisfactorily.
