About Senior Pathway Programs Specialist

  GENERAL PURPOSE:

  With significant latitude for independent judgement and decision-making, the Associate Director of Pathway Programs develops and manages inclusion and culture initiatives to foster interest among elementary, high school, undergraduate/graduate, medical student and graduate medical trainees for careers in medicine and scientific research. This individual serves as the subject matter expert and key driver of pipeline programming, proactively interacting and consulting with faculty, staff, students, area schools and organizations, and other external stakeholders to raise awareness and drive measured results in the school’s commitment to learner inclusion and culture excellence.

  The Associate Director of Pathway Programs assumes management and operational responsibility in the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of pipeline programs. Additionally, the Associate Director shares responsibility in URMC’s commitment to growing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive learning environment, and identifies opportunities to engage with diverse undergraduate/graduates, MD students, graduate medical trainees, and other stakeholders that enrich the quality of their experiences at the University of Rochester.

  The Associate Director of Pathway Programs provides leadership and direction to team members and students, and works in collaboration with SMD’s Admissions Office and Student Affairs.

  JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Program Management

  Conducts gap analyses on the University’s pipeline for secondary, post-secondary, and medical school learners

  Develops and oversees programming to expand and increase community engagement programs, marketing, and recruiting. Manages project scope, timeline, and milestones; identifies, tracks, and manages risks and issues to resolution.

  Monitors progress of programs and events activities and ensures all critical implementation criteria are met.

  Develops and manages pipeline program budgets in coordination with the Director of Operations.

  Analyzes and synthesizes data and reports, and interprets feedback from stakeholders to determine short-term and long-term success of programming and to continually improve program outcomes.

  Identifies and modifies strategies and plans as needed.

  Relationship Management

  Develops and fosters positive relationships with community members, vendors, program stakeholders, funders, other university departments, and other pipeline programs leaders in the region and state.

  Consults with other leaders to identify programmatic needs, develop programming to mitigate needs, and lead cross-functional teams in implementing solutions-based programming.

  Represents the department in cooperative programs with other institutions

  Serves on inter-departmental committees as needed.

  Establishes relationship opportunities and fosters engagement from faculty and/or departments functioning as Principal Investigators (PI) for high school, undergraduate or medical students. Connects PIs with mentees and programs that need PIs.

  Counsels and provides direction to students, resident affinity groups, and identity groups. Provides guidance and direction to designated group advisors, meeting with them throughout the academic year.

  Facilitates mentorship of diverse students with residents, faculty, alumni, and physicians in the community.

  Grant Management

  Completes and securely stores all program-related documentation, ensuring that it is accurate, up-to-date, and high quality.

  Manages each program and grant’s lifecycle and plans ahead for key milestones, such as program renewal, application, site visits, reporting deadlines, and grant close-out.

  Leads grant writing efforts in support of pipeline programs and serves as the primary liaison for grant funders in collaboration with PIs and the Director of Operations.

  Ensures successful administrative oversite of current grants and state requirements to demonstrate the high quality of pipeline programs.

  Recruitment

  Supports the development of programs/strategies aimed at enhancing the recruitment of diverse medical students. Provides guidance and direction and identifies resources for professional growth opportunities.

  Reviews admission applications, interviews candidates for admission to the medical school, and serves as an ex-officio member of the Admissions Committee.

  Represents the school at external recruitment events. Supports the ongoing enhancement of and participates in programs for accepted diverse applicants

  Staff and Student Management

  Directly manages a team of students and staff.

  Makes hiring decisions, provides ongoing supervision and training, manages personnel issues and actions, and conducts performance reviews.

  Collaborates with Director of Operations to manage personnel issues and actions.

  Other duties as assigned.

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, or Business Administration

  3 years of experience required

  or an equivalent combination of education and experience required

  Previous experience related to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and programming preferred

  Excellent organization, verbal and written communication and analytical skills required

  Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, writing and multi-tasking skills required

  Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, community partners, and maintain confidentiality of information at all times required

  Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required

  CITI certified preferred

  Pay Range

  Pay Range: $75,000 - $102,600 Annually

  The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
