The Senior Director of Strategic Alliances is a key leader within the Corporate Development and Strategic Alliance organization. This role is responsible for executing the alliance strategy including the sourcing, underwriting, and evaluation of prospective business opportunities to drive inorganic EBITDA growth for Choice Hotels International. Specifically, the Senior Director of Strategic Alliances will:
Develop and implement strategies and collateral to identify, pursue, and secure new value enhancing alliances which support achievement of EBITDA growth objectives.
Coordinate cross-functionally within the organization to inform sourcing strategy and develop a target list of potential enterprise business opportunities in adjacent travel and hospitality spaces (all inclusive, casino, small boutique hotel chains, cruise, airlines, restaurants, alternative accommodations, etc.).
Engage with prospects across the sales lifecycle to negotiate mutually agreeable terms and alliance frameworks.
Prepare clear, concise presentations for the executive team illustrating the financial and strategic merits/considerations of alliance opportunities.
Develop, cultivate, and maintain a professional network of industry participants and advisors to ensure a dynamic pipeline of potential business opportunities.
Manage and optimize existing alliances (all-inclusive, casino, timeshare) to maximize value for all stakeholders to include guests and Choice.

Your Responsibilities
Strategic Alliance Opportunities
Develop strategies and a systematic approach to identifying prospective business opportunities, move prospects efficiently through the sale lifecycle, and negotiate mutually agreeable terms.
Develop and maintain a strategic and targeted list of potential prospects in travel adjacent spaces, including but not limited to all inclusive, casino, small boutique hotel chains, cruise, airlines, restaurants, alternative accommodations, etc.).
Prioritization of alliance pipeline based on alignment with Choice’s values and strategic objectives, including consideration of white space in existing Choice Hotels portfolio, customer overlap/appetite, and financial outcomes for both parties.
Build a professional network of internal and external contacts to gather intelligence, identify emerging trends, and monitor competitor activity in the alliance space.
Manage the sales pipeline and track progress towards goals.
Business Development
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including potential and existing customers, prospects and influencers.
Develop and customize pitch materials illustrating Choice’s value proposition to prospects, including our broad customer reach, distribution capabilities, and corporate agility to support the unique needs of each relationship.
Manage extensive travel requirements as necessary to generate and cultivate new alliance opportunities, including networking events, and conferences.
Underwrite alliance opportunities to evaluate financial outcomes and assess feasibility of proposed terms.
Prepare presentations to executive leadership illustrating the risk/return characteristic of alliance opportunities.
Negotiate contracts with alliances coordinating closely with legal, finance, technology, and distribution strategy.
Account Management
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize existing relationship and generate incremental value for both parties.
Develop P&L for each alliance on an annual basis in conjunction with FP&A.
Hosts quarterly business reviews to discuss current business performance and joint initiatives to drive in year performance growth.
Talent Management
Hire, retain and continually develop diverse, high caliber talent who is able to contribute positively to the organization. Supports functional on-boarding of new associates.
Develop clear and measurable goals for direct reports; manages relative to shared accountability standards; provides regular performance feedback and addresses performance issues promptly and consistently.
Motivate associates and utilize Choice engagement results to measure effectiveness; collaborates with direct reports on their professional growth and development.
Provide input in to strategy and plans for talent development in the department.
Your Team
As our Senior Director, Strategic Alliances, you will report to the Vice President, Corporate Development.
Your Experience & Skills
A minimum of 10 years' experience in business development, sales, demonstrated ability to manage and grow a P&L's overall EBITDA. Previous experience in business development or customer relationship management is desired.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree is desired.
Strong track record of success in developing successful alliance strategies with a clear pattern of driving execution and business results.
Broad based business acumen: demonstrated ability to collaborate with business leaders, exert organizational influence, and manage multiple projects across business lines.
Proven leadership capability and ability to lead and manage organizational change. Prior supervisory and people management experience is required.
Financial savvy with ability to articulate the strategic and financial merits/considerations of prospective relationships to internal and external stakeholders, including potential business opportunities.
Negotiation expertise in understanding leverage, formulating deals, and managing those expectations.
Comfort managing ambiguity and working in "white space" while clarifying for the team and focusing associates to meet targets and objectives.
Expertise in developing compelling pitch materials and sales collateral.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demeanor.
Proficient in the use of MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

As our Senior Director, Strategic Alliances, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.
Right now, our associates in corporate headquarters are working in a hybrid environment, up to 4 days per week in the office and virtual from your home office the remaining days. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.
