Zurich North America is currently looking to add a Senior Data Engineer to our growing Data & Analytics Engineering team based at our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. While this position will be based out of our Schaumburg Headquarters, we are offering the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely. You will collaborate with your manager to set a schedule that supports you, our customers, and the team.
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for enabling data-driven decision-making through improved data flows and enhancing the suite of data and analytic tools and capabilities. The Data & Analytics Engineering Team facilitates the development and implementation of the desired end-state analysis environment within Zurich North America’s Data and Analytics group, leveraging emerging tools and technologies, while evolving and refining standards and methodologies.
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for the following:
Design and build data engineering solutions using Databricks, Azure, Python
Advocate and enforce adoption of standards such as technical design patterns, reusable code examples, and physical design best practices
Identify and design any transformations or conversions required to maximize data consistency and usability
Utilize data profiling, cleansing, and conforming techniques to design procedures / packages
Review requirements for data sourcing requests and understand feasibility
Develop data integration solutions in alignment with enterprise data integration principles
Gain access to the data sources and perform initial analysis to identify sourcing strategies and act as technical expert to provide guidance to the business
Develop process to enable exchange of data between applications and source systems
Communicate data engineering project updates via data visualization tools such as Power Bi or Tableau.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Mathematics/Statistics and 6 or more years of experience in the Data Engineering areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Data Engineering areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree in Computer Science or Mathematics/Statistics and 6 or more years of experience in the Data Engineering areaAND
5 or more of experience in Enterprise Data Engineering
Experience in scripting languages
Experience with data transformation and aggregation tools
Experience in data analysis, data interrogation or data profiling
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using Cloud platforms/technologies (Azure ADF, Databricks, ADLS, PowerShell, cloud native databases)
Experience in scripting languages including Python, R, Java, Scala
Experience Big Data tools including with Hive, Spark SQL, Databricks, Delta Lake
Experience with ETL technologies; strong SQL and stored procedure skills
Experience with Dev/Ops
Azure cloud certification
Commercial insurance industry experience
The salary range for this role is $112,000 - $140,000. This is the range Zurich NA in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of the posting. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed remotely in any US state. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also bonus eligible. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
