  TheSenior CounselorofChildren's Servicesposition is located at the Staten Island Family Justice Center (SIFJC). The Family Justice Centers are an initiative of the Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence and are designed to reduce barriers to support faced by survivors of intimate partner violence, elder abuse and sex trafficking. STEPS is co-located at the SIFJC and partners with the Mayor's Office, the Richmond County District Attorney's Office and other community-based organizations to provide a safe and welcoming place for survivors and their children. The Senior Counselor of the Children’s Services (SIFJC) will provide therapy for children ages 0 to 17 who have been exposed to family violence. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for social justice and anti-oppressive practice, ample experience providing intake, assessment, planning and therapeutic service implementation for children and their families experiencing abuse, a desire to work collaboratively with a team of creative and committed advocates, and demonstrated experience working with children witnesses of intimate-partner violence. The Senior Counselor position will work under the supervision of the Director of Children Services at the SIFJC.

  Responsibilities

  Provide therapeutic individual, family, group and therapeutic services.

  Assess and plan for the treatment implementation using trauma-informed evidence-based models of intervention.

  Network within the community and work as an advocate for clients within various institutions.

  Maintain accurate case files.

  Participate actively in weekly individual and team supervision.

  Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.

  Qualifications

  Bi-lingual English/Spanish, required

  Master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling or related field, required. Licensure within 6 months of hire required.

  LMSW OR LMHC-LP Preferred.

  Training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and/or other evidence- based practices designed to support survivors of trauma preferred.

  Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence.

  Proficiency working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles with various identities.

  Passion for incorporating reflective practice around issues of race, oppression, and diversity into clinical work.

  Exceptional interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills and the ability to apply these skills in diverse situations.

  Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work as a team member, and independently.
