Duties : The Senior Assistant Actuary performs valuation/financial reporting and analysis for the US Individual Life Division of RGA. Contributes to the maintenance and enhancement of the financial forecasting infrastructure and analytic foundation by developing/maintaining actuarial data, assumptions, models and processes used not only for valuation, but also to support unbiased planning, reporting, economic capital refinement, embedded value calculation, capital planning, cash flow testing, and other such uses. Provides valuation, financial analysis, and project assistance. Specific duties include: i) performing annual best estimate assumption update and validation work. Ensures that the assumption implementation and projection process is effective and efficient (30%); ii) using advanced actuarial concepts, performs detailed Statutory, Tax and GAAP valuation work, ensuring these items are appropriately documented and posted (20%); iii) developing unbiased projections for financial planning and analyzing and assisting with communication of financial analytics and results in terms of major drivers of variance (15%); iv) identifying changing requirements and determining what modifications are needed in order to maintain compliance with Statutory, Tax and GAAP valuation work (10%); v) relying on research to develop, maintain, and review actuarial assumptions, methods and models. Provides internal guidance and independently identifies approaches to improve and simplify actuarial assumption structure. Works with actuarial assistant responsible for incorporating identified improvements into the actuarial assumption structure (10%); vi) serving as subject matter expert for US Mortality Markets valuation assumptions and their use in actuarial models (5%); vii) reviewing the work of less experienced staff and signing off on results (5%); and viii) serving as a liaison with other valuation, pricing, administration, systems, accounting, audit, and finance associates. Releasing new block and in-force business to valuation model (5%).
Education : Bachelor's Degree in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences. Statistics or closely related.Experience : 48 months actuarial experience in life insurance / reinsuranceCertification : ASA accreditation with completion of 1 or more FSA exams.Special Skills: Advanced PC and technical skills, including database applications (Access, Oracle, SQL or equivalent technology), spreadsheets, data visualization tool (such as Tableau), statistical programs and actuarial software (Prophet, AXIS, or equivalent). Knowledge of life, health, and/or annuity products. Knowledge of GAAP, Statutory, and Tax valuation and financial reporting.
