About the Position: Vacancies are available at Fort Eisenhower and Fort Gillem. Responsibilities Utilize the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) system in order to enroll personnel into the system for the vetting and printing of visitor passes/badges. Screen vehicle and pedestrian traffic at the Installation Access Control Point (IACP) for safety and security checks. Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics, automated records, vehicle decals, verbal questioning, and other means; allowing entrance to persons and vehicles that display proper authorization. Perform security duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage, and espionage, and to enforce the security regulations of the installation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized experience is defined as work with a Federal, State, Municipal, Local, or Private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, trespass, maintain order and protecting life. Such experience must demonstrate knowledge of munitions, protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-05. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Access Control Operations Physical Security Search Techniques Security Documentation This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date). The selectee's inability to successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in 1) the tentative or final job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment. You may be required to sign a 'Drug Test Statement of Understanding' if you are selected for this position. Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of the Defense are not exempt from this provision. This includes Protection from Abuse Orders Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
