OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE
The Platform Assay Testing team plays an important role within the Cell Therapy organization at Takeda. Working closely within the Analytical Development team, and with our colleagues in Process Development, Automation and Digital Technologies, we execute in-process and drug product testing and data analysis to inform process design and optimization, and to support critical product characterization studies during development. As a Scientist in Platform Assay Testing, you’ll play an integral part in developing and implementing testing automation and leading related initiatives including the digitization of workflows. Additionally, as a Scientist in the team you will be responsible for cross-functional engagement including coordinating sample testing, leading scientific investigations, facilitating successful method technology transfers from adjacent Analytical Development teams, and supporting method optimization. The ideal candidate will be a robust team player with a mindset for collaboration and possess excellent attention to detail, with a high emotional IQ and a strong foundation in scientific practice.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead efforts to build/implement assay automation strategies and practices
Oversee and participate in initiatives to streamline assay execution within the laboratory
Understand project timelines and deliverables and plan/coordinate project work accordingly
Assist with logistics and coordination of sample testing
Develop strategies to streamline/optimize data analysis workflows
Act as a project and team lead supporting testing and process initiatives
Perform testing of samples per established test methods (immunophenotyping, cytotoxicity, cytokine release, infectious titer and other cell-based assays)
Develop and optimize methods to improve existing techniques and/or efficiencies
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely data in laboratory notebooks/electronic notebooks
Act as both writer and reviewer for laboratory notebooks/electronic notebooks
Plan and implement resolutions to technical problems/issues ; support internal investigations
Prepare study protocols, reports, and technology transfer documentation
Assist with general operation of the laboratory space
Work collaboratively with members across different teams and demonstrate independent, self- starting work style; demonstrate ability to work effectively in a matrix-based organization
Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of discipline
Keeps current with emerging trends in discipline
Independently manages own workload
Scientifically independent
Conducts scientific presentations to internal audiences
Receives high level instructions on all work, determines methods on new assignments, works closely with manager, may manage junior staff
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science and 8+ years relevant industry experience
Master’s degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 6+ years relevant industry experience
PhD in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 0+ years
relevant industry experience
Hands-on experiences with BD instruments (FACSCanto II, FACSLyric) or other multi-color flow cytometry instruments are a must
Experience with various immune assays, such as ELISA or ELISpot
Prior experience with adaptive immunity, T/NK cell biology is desirable
Prior experience with viral vector analytics is ideal
Prior experience with cell therapy and/or an oncology related field is preferred
Proactive and highly self-motivated with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills with the ability to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment
Teamwork – Ability to work well in a highly cross-functional team environment
Communication – Able to express oneself clearly and concisely within a team; documents issues and/or concerns concisely with colleagues; timely and effectively communicates issues to supervisor; technical writing skills to support contributing to internal technical documents
Organization – Exercises good time management and prioritization skills and can successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Base Salary Range:102,000.00 to 146,000.00. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.
The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
