  About the Opportunity

  This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]

  This position will support the New Castle/Erie regions.Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:The safety representativewill be located In the Pennsylvania Territory of our Distribution & Transmission Service Area.  The individual will provide the state operations with subject matter expertise for safety, health and human performance.  The adv /senior safety representative will serve as a resource to management, leadership, supervision, and union / hourly employees in the direction, planning, development and coordination of the company's safety programs. In addition, they will engage employees, visitors and contractors at all levels to promote a proactive safety culture where hazard exposure is identified and controlled or eliminated.Reporting to the Manager, Safety Operations, this position is responsible to:Providing technical / analytical guidance regarding OSHA regulations, as well as applicable consensus standards (i.e., NFPA, ASTM, ANSI, etc.)Perform as a Safety and Health Subject Matter Expert (SME) with the ability to research and present regulatory and technical information. Monitor and communicate regulatory requirements, as they pertain to the business.Provide sound recommendations, innovative solutions, and competent technical guidance resulting in process improvement and/or exposure reduction.Collaborate with State Leadership, Contractor Companies (as needed), FE Contractor Safety, and other FirstEnergy Business Units (as needed) to develop safety and health programs designed to resolve business issues and promote continuous improvement.Lead/support the state safety and health program assessments.Assist Business Unit Leadership in promoting/enhancing knowledge of and conformity with Safety and Health programs, requirements, and expectations.Provide consultation during the analysis of events and assist in the development of action plans to prevent recurrence, as needed. Lead or engage with root cause analysis as needed.Analyze Safety data, including observations and performance. Provide reports as needed.Assist in developing annual Industrial Hygiene sampling plan to include health hazard assessments, audiogram, respiratory protection program, employee coaching and counselingMaintain required records for compliance and maintain confidentiality where required.Actively participate in local safety and fleet safety committees / peer teams.Develop and deliver training and presentations as needed.Other responsibilities will include:Educating and directing others on safety practices, improving safety program and process effectiveness, and making significant contributions to the achievement of safety goals and objectivesSupporting restoration and investigation activities during and outside of normal working hoursWilling to travel as requiredServing as the lead in diverse and complex projects, processes and programsIndependently anticipating and meeting internal/external customer needsActively developing and implementing safety programs and policiesIntegrating strategic concepts into safety activitiesDeveloping high-level solutions for complex assignmentParticipate and lead safety and health program teamsQualifications include:Bac elor's degree in Safety, Health, or related discipline, with a minimum of 2-4 years of relevant work experience is required.  Related experience would include working on med- large industrial settingsCertified Safety Professional (preferred)In lieu of a Bachelor's degree (preferred), a minimum of 8+ years of relevant work experience is required.Supervisor experience (preferred)In depth knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene regulations (OSHA General Industry and Construction) and safe work practices.In depth knowledge of OSHA's Electrical Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution regulations (Subpart R and V) (preferred)In depth knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene practices and regulations including OSHA and DOT regulations. Basic understanding of industry standards related to Health & Safety including: American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).Knowledge of Human Performance Tools and Principles.Knowledge of Root Cause AnalysisExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment, including leading teams.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsExperience with rules and regulations of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Labor and the Workers Compensation laws of PA.Experience preparing and delivering presentations and demonstrations to diverse audiences.Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activitiesOSHA 500 Authorized Instructor for Construction (preferred)Must be willing to travel on an occasional basis to other company locations within the FirstEnergy service territory.
