The City of Portlands Human Resources Department is seeking aself-motivated and dedicated Safety and Training Officer to helpimplement our program to ensure the safety of our employees. If youenjoy working with people, have a passion for safety, and a desire topositively impact others, this might be the job for you. This positionworks collaboratively as a member of a City-wide team responsible forthe planning and implementation of all occupational health and safetyprograms, including designing and delivering trainings, supportingdepartment safety teams and initiatives, consulting on ways to reduceworkplace hazards, developing and implementing safety programs,conducting incident investigations, leading safety and accident reviewcommittees, as well as serving as subject matter experts, with the goalof reducing and eliminating workplace accidents, incidents, andinjuries. The individual in this position must have a high degree ofintegrity, resourcefulness, and professionalism, and be able to workindependently as well as collaboratively. Relationship building,internal customer service, and the ability to follow up in a timelymanner are critical for success.
The right candidate will have relevant experience, including knowledgeof OSHA and workplace safety and familiarity with BLS and other stateand federal regulations, and an understanding of incident investigation;demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with diverse populationsand all levels of employees; excellent communication, presentation, andtime management skills; the ability to lead committees; and a high levelof technological proficiency. A passion for occupational health andsafety is a must. Willingness to work extended hours during emergencyoperations for accident response and investigations is required.Applicants must have a valid Class C driver\'s license and excellentdriving record. This is a non-union, Grade B25, position with a starting salary of\$54,366.00 to \$61,210.76/year, commensurate with education andexperience, with the possibility of overtime as needed and on-call payduring winter operations. Accepting applications until the vacancy isfilled.
