The majority ofMICU patients are severely ill and high acuity, requiring frequentnursing assessment and intervention. Patient populations commonly servedinclude: septic shock, respiratory disease requiring mechanicalventilation, GI bleeding, multisystem organ failure, pulmonaryhypertension, DKA/HHNK, hypertensive emergencies/crises, acute drugoverdoses-intentional/non-intentional, and medication desensitization.With specialty therapies that may include: Induced hypothermia,CRRT/CVVH, IL-2 infusions, rapid infusion for emergent fluid or bloodreplacement, and flolan/remodulin infusions.
