  Job ID359146 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R2 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job This position is within the laboratory of Dr. Joan Beckman in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. Dr. Beckman currently has active projects in mechanisms of vascular activation in myeloproliferative neoplasm (polycythemia vera,essential thrombocythemia and myelofibrosis) and sickle cell disease. The Beckman lab is expanding; this position has been developed in order to meet needs for new and exciting projects with animal models. The researcher will grow and propagate cultured human vascular endothelial cells. The applicant will be skilled in protein and nucleic acid isolation and analysis. This includes experience with DNA/RNA isolation and analysis (qRT/PCR, sequencing) and protein analysis (ELISA and immunoblotting). The position will also require extensive work with characterization of mouse models and learning models of thrombosis and microvascular stasis. Responsibilities: (30%) Functional assays aimed at isolating and identifying proteins by immunoblot, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and nucleic acid expression (25%) Animal Handling: Assisting current lab personnel or directly carrying out mouse procedures including injections, imaging, and harvests (25%) Long-term sterile tissue culture and cell-based analysis (15%) Processing and documenting human blood samples for biobank (5%) Documentation, protocol development, and general lab inventory Qualifications Required Qualifications: BS/BA and 1 years of experience or combination of related education and work experience to equal to 5 years. Experience to include working in a laboratory setting. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Experience human and animal cell culture 2. Proficiency in mouse handling 3. Experience in western blotting/immunoblotting 4. Knowledge of nucleic acid expression analysis and associated experimental procedures 5. Knowledge of sterile cell culture 6. Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems 7. Ability to self-motivate and work independently 8. Ability to follow detailed protocols and standard operating procedures 9. Willingness to learn and develop new techniques and approaches 10. Excellent organization skills and strong record keeping abilities 11.
