JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Research Technologist I PurposeUnder general supervision provide support for department researchthrough projects, maintenance and communication of data, and executionof laboratory experiments. Primary Functions * Carry out experimentaldesigns for sponsored research projects, and perform routineexperiments. * Record and compile accurate records and communicatesummaries of experimental results. * Assist with the evaluation,interpretation and assessment of experimental data and quality controlof assays. * Participate in meetings with principal investigator andresearch staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed. *Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply ofinventories. * Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance onspecialized equipment used in research, including but not limited to gasrespirometry and plethysmography equipment. * Oversee daily laboperation in the absence of the supervisor or Principal Investigator.Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of biology, chemistry,mathematics, documentation, and records management. Data utilization,complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, andwriting skills. Independently operate gas respirometry andplethysmography equipment and analyze resulting data for studies ofmetabolic and respiratory function in rodents. Independently performstudies using metabolic caging systems for quantitative collection ofbiological samples. Provide husbandry, breeding, weaning, and genotypingsupport for novel transgenic rodent models.
