DescriptionThe School of Pharmacy at West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a Research Technician.About the OpportunityAs a Research Technician, you will be responsible for providing assistance to the principal investigators, Drs. Jason Huber and Werner Geldenhuys. The lab's research is focused on preclinical investigation of experimental therapeutic effectiveness to improve health outcomes following neurological injury. Procedures to be trained on include, rat/mice handling and surgical prep, middle cerebral artery occlusion, use of blast tube to induce traumatic brain injury, artery/vein cannulations, injections/infusions, blood collection, euthanasia, basic neurological/behavioral measures, necropsy/tissue collection and genotyping.Maintain accurate animal census and surgical/recovery records.Laboratory procedures:Perform various standard experimental assays, including protein/RNA expression using a variety of biological systems, protein purification and characterization, quantitative real-time PCR, western blot, flow cytometry, and ELISA.Work in sterile conditions to conduct cell culture experiments and start/maintain the growth of cell lines.Collect and analyze generated data.Prepare sterile buffers and media for experiments.Label tubes for specimen collection and update/maintain sample inventories.Other areas of potential opportunity are in the area of image acquisition and analysis using microscopy (transmission electron, confocal, 2-photon), laser speckle diffusion & microCT.Regulatory compliance:Support regulatory compliance efforts as instructed by the Principal Investigator in accordance with IACUC, radiation safety and IRB standards.Maintain logs for various aspects of maintaining the surgical suite (autoclave/guillotine logs, ventilator inspections, expiration dates of surgical supplies and drugs, pipette & balance calibrations, etc.)Communication:Keep detailed records of all lab-based activities in a laboratory notebook.Provide progress updates and lab related issues to the Principal Investigator and other members of the lab in weekly lab meetings.Assist in organization and upkeep of laboratory supplies, workspace, and equipment in line with standards dictated by the Principal Investigator.Properly sterilize supplies and lab instruments by autoclave.Assist in the development of standard operating procedures.Teamwork:Work independently and...
