The Department of Medicine's Division of Bioengineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant to join Dr. Imoukhuede's research laboratory, located at the South Lake Union Campus. The Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant will be responsible for executing standard procedures and tasks within the research workflow, under the guidance of Dr. Imoukhuede. Key responsibilities include sample acquisition, preparation, and analysis using flow cytometry and other protein analysis instruments for various projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES Under general direction of the Principal Investigator, this position will conduct research:
Research activities (75%)
• Conduct investigations related to protein and/or RNA biomarkers in vascular disorders.• Perform protein and/or RNA assays with in-vitro and ex-vivo cells.• Maintain accurate and organized records of data in the laboratory.• Proficiency in cell cultures.
Research reporting and Lab operations (25%)
• Hands-on experience with biochemical assays for proteins (e.g., flow cytometry, Western blotting, ELISA, etc.) and/or RNAs (e.g., RT-PCR).• Ability to summarize and present research results effectively.• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to optimize technical research protocols.• Notifies the lab manager when new supplies or materials are needed to replenish the inventory.• Follows standard operating protocols and performs assigned tasks in a manner that is safe for self and others in the lab.
REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and less than one year of relevant experience
OR
Equivalent combination of education/experience.

• Willingness to work with animals (e.g., mice).• Willingness to work with human tissue samples (e.g., blood).• Experience in problem-solving skills and troubleshooting.• Eagerness to learn and assist with secondary tasks.• Experienced with general lab maintenance and safety protocols.• Exceptional attention to detail.• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.• Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently.• Excellent recording keeping skills.
