Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a per diem Research Assistant for the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, assist in single-molecule biophysical analysis of force-producing enzymes.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Prepare samples and carry out single-molecule biophysical assays on force-producing enzymes.
  • Maintain custom-built instrumentation for optical and magnetic tweezers.
  • Use and improve custom-written LabVIEW and MATLAB scripts for data acquisition and analysis.
  • General molecular biology and recombinant protein preparation.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive laboratory records

  Qualifications

  

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Completion of undergraduate/graduate degree in biomedical engineering, biophysics, physics, biochemistry, or a similar field.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A basic knowledge of computer programming and strong quantitative skills.
  • General wet lab skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with MATLAB and/pr LabVIEW.
  • Experience with biophysical techniques.
Equipment Utilized
  • Equipment specific to a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology laboratory.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements.
  • Work Environment: Lab environment with moderate noise.
