About Food Service Coordinator- Hamden, NY

  This position will serve as the Food Service Coordinator of 4-H Camp Shankitunk. Camp Shankitunk is a traditional summer camp located in Delhi, NY. 4-H Camp Shankitunk operates both a day camp program (ages 6+) and an overnight program (ages 8-16) for youth in the summer and hires approximately 50-60 seasonal camp staff members. 4-H Camp Shankitunk is owned by Delaware County and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Delaware County.

  The Food Service Coordinator supervises all food preparation and service operations. Assist with the selection of cooks and kitchen assistants. Develop weekly menus and meals that are nutritionally complete and reasonably accommodate special dietary needs or restrictions. Procures food and supplies and monitors expenses. Maintain inventory of all kitchen materials and equipment and submit orders for replacement when needed. Schedule and supervise kitchen assistants and cooks. Ensure that food preparation, service and storage comply with NYSDOH regulations.

  Required Qualifications:

  18 years of age.

  1-2 years previous experience with increasing responsibility in a kitchen.

  Possess a current Serve Safe Certificate.

  Knowledge of generally accepted nutrition guidelines.

  Able to operate commercial kitchen equipment.

  Able to lift 20-50 lbs.

  Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends, as appropriate.

  Be neat, reliable, punctual, flexible and responsible.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Training or education as a chef or cook desirable.

  Experience as a camp cook desirable.

  Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  Administrative Management – 30%

  Ensure that food service operations comply with the camp safety plan's requirements.

  Monitor and maintain required temperatures for refrigeration, dishwashing, and food preparation.

  Ensure cleanliness of food preparation and delivery areas.

  Ensure that campers and staff follow s anitation procedures before each meal.

  Ensure that staff assisting with food service use tongs, gloves, or other hand barriers.

  Direct and supervise kitchen assistants by providing instructions and inspecting work for adherence.

  Check and confirm food order deliveries and rotate stock as needed

  When appropriate or needed, train kitchen and program staff on allergy considerations in food handling.

  Support community-oriented camp culture that emphasizes acceptance, cooperation, and empathy.

  Administrative Coordination/Operation – 65%

  Set Up the Camp Kitchen prior to staff orientation.

  Orient and/or train kitchen assistants and Assistant Cooks on use of kitchen tools they will be utilizing.

  Secure attendance numbers for campers and staff to plan for meals to be served, minimizing waste .

  Prepare, serve, and store food products using recognized safe handling procedures.

  Prepare meals that meet dietary guidelines and make reasonable accommodations for dietary restrictions and special needs.

  Assist camp program staff with ordering and accessing food items for programs which require kitchen supplies.

  Communicate with camp staff, explaining food preparation and service procedures when necessary.

  Communicate with parents, explaining food preparation and service procedures when necessary.

  Ensure sanitization of kitchen surfaces and equipment regularly throughout the day.

  Report any accidents or injuries immediately to the Health Center Coordinator and/or Camp Director.

  Maintain daily water reports and testing requirements for Department of Health in conjunction with the Camp Facilities Coordinator.

  Assist with the completion of claims paperwork for the New York State Milk and other reimbursement programs.

  Professional Improvement – 5%

  In cooperation with Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and address changes and Association priorities.

  Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

  Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  Be familiar with and follow applicable federal, state, and local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement, and standards.

  Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

  Position Details

  This is a full-time, exempt, temporary position that will run from June 1st - August 9th. The salary will range from $4,800-$6,400. Salary is commensurate with experience, certifications, responsibilities, and availability.

  The position will work at 4-H Camp Shankitunk in Delhi, NY. On-site residence during program preferred. Overnight accommodations available upon request. Delicious meals prepared by you and your team.
