Job Description Summary:
A research assistant position is available immediately in the NIH-fundedGenome Maintenance Biology group of Dr. Bret Freudenthal. The candidateselected for the position will work as part of a diverse research group,encompassing undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral level scientists,employing multiple cellular, molecular biology, structural, andbiochemical approaches focusing on determining how genome and telomerestability is maintained. The technician will work on a number ofprojects in the lab as needs arise. Past technicians have been onmultiple publications from the lab. Perform avariety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical,chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experimentsand determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile,analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimentalresults. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignmentsand develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications toexisting laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of theparticular equipment as required. Review laboratory methods manual,scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for informationapplicable to research experiments.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor\'s or graduate degree in biology, chemistry,medicine or other science/medicine-related area.
Work Experience:
Experience in cellular biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry.Strong communication as evidenced in application materials.Computer experience including data management.Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience
Previous lab experience working with tissue culture is preferred.Experience in an office type environmentStrong organizational skills.Job Duties
Primary duties will include cellular microscopy, proteinimmunoblotting, maintenance of cell cultures, and DNA isolation andanalysis.Attend all orientation and training sessions designated by theUniversity and Department, attend departmental seminars and attendregular lab meetings.Provide laboratory training for new students and fellows in the lab.Expected to participate in various research projects under theguidance of the faculty supervisor, record and interpret the resultsof their experiments in a laboratory notebook.Interact on a regular basis with faculty and other members of thelaboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation ofresults.Develop and maintain lab guidelines for specific studies as directedby lab supervisor.Order supplies and negotiate prices on lab consumables.Follow established quality control and quality assurance policiesand procedures, including appropriate documentation.Serve as lab safety person as needed.Dispose of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps and otherpotentially hazardous materials according to policy, and strictlyadheres to safety and biosafety control procedures.Calibrate, maintain, and operate equipment keeping appropriatedocumentation.Report malfunctions to supervisor.Maintain adequate inventory of lab kits and reagents.Perf rm other duties as assigned.Required Documents:
