Job Description Summary:
The Asthma and Airway Translational Research Unit (AATRU) Lab is seekinga Research Assistant to perform a variety of complex technical dutiesinvolved in conducting physical, chemical, biological, and otherresearch laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations to obtaindata for research purposes; compile, analyze, document, and drawtentative conclusions from experimental results. Confer with principalinvestigator to review work assignments and develop plans for researchexperiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory proceduresand techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment asrequired. This will include but is not limited to purchasing ofsupplies/materials through the online Workday, managing and adheringtimelines for project completion and collecting data to support thegoals of the lab. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals,abstracts and other literature for information applicable to researchexperiments.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor\'s degree in a basic science or health-relatedfield. Relevant experience may be substituted for the degree requirementon a year-by-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master\'s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, or arelated discipline
Work Experience:
At least 1 year of laboratory experienceOne-year prior experience with human biospecimen processing,clinical trial processing, biobanking and general research methodsincluding pipetting and centrifugation.Previous experience using a biosafety cabinet, BSL-2 biosafetypractices, and familiarity with manual of operating procedures (MOP)and Good Clinical Practices (GCP) a plus.Data management experience with Microsoft Excel, REDCap, CRIS,Access, or and familiarity with cataloging biospecimens in thelaboratory information monitoring system (LIMS).Skills
Demonstrated abilities that include attention to detail, strong workethic, and good interpersonal skills.Proficient knowledge of Microsoft SuiteExcellent organization, verbal and written communication, andpresentation skills as evidenced by application material andinterview processJob Duties Outlined
Conduct and support research involving techniques including but notlimited to:
Perform routine laboratory techniques and support laboratoryoperations (general laboratory duties, ordering, tracking,inventory, laboratory safety, regulatory and compliance).Maintenance of adequate lab supplies, reagents, and chemicals fordaily research procedures.Perform specimen processing, biobanking and shipments for Clinical &Translational Research trials. This includes specialized processingtechniques such as isolating mononuclear cells (e.g., PBMCs) andmaking differential slides for sputum and BALPerform collaborative studies with other research laboratories atKUMC, this includes collecting and processing repositorybiospecimens for investigators in the Pulmonary, Critical Care, &Sleep Medicine Division.Collect/analyze data, maintain detailed laboratory records, andpresent results during laboratory meetings or at one-on-one meetingswith the PI.Maintain communications between the Lab and AATRU ResearchCoordinators.Conduct isolation of DNA nd RNA from cells, media, serum, andtissues.Perform, PCR, Western blot, ELISA, primary cell, general tissueculture.Assist with antibody labeling for immunohistochemistry,immunofluorescence, fluorescence microscopy and basic imageanalysis.Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and trainingsessions designated by the University and the Pulmonary, CriticalCare, & Sleep Medicine Division, understand and follow biosafetyprotocols, and attend divisional research seminars.Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts andother literature for information applicable to research experiments.Assist with the development, data collection, planning, databasedevelopment, statistical planning, and analyzation of data.Assist with additional activities and duties as directed byPrincipal Investigators andRequired Documents
