  Summary

  The Department of Chemical Engineering is looking for a Research Administrator to join our department staff to provide management and coordination of pre-award and post-award activities for Chemical Engineering faculty and researchers. The Chemical Engineering contracts and grants team provides support to 24-30 tenure/tenure track faculty, manages $13-17M per year in research expenditures, and manages 100+ research proposals per year.

  In addition to being someone excited about supporting our research enterprise, the successful candidate for this position is proactive, enjoys working both independently and in a team setting, and is motivated to solve problems. They place a high importance on customer service in their approach to work and understand the flexibility that is required for this work. They will report directly to the ChE Research Manager, and work collaboratively within the Chemical Engineering Business Team and with a wide variety of other internal and external stakeholders.

  What You'll Do

  Pre-award

  You will independently manage the pre-award process for an assigned subset of faculty. Key duties include locating relevant sponsor information and guidelines, collaborating with faculty on the development and preparation of research proposals for submission to various funding agencies, working with faculty to develop multi-year budgets and budget justifications, ensuring that proposals align with both sponsor and university rules and guidelines, and meet the required standards of quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness, as well as coordinating and facilitating the internal review and approval process for proposals to ensure timely submission, and communicating with internal and external entities as needed.

  Post-award

  You will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of externally funded sponsored, non-sponsored discretionary and internally funded accounts from project grant set up to closeout for an assigned subset of faculty. Key duties include monitoring expenses and revenue for assigned accounts, providing projection and analysis of accounts to faculty and researchers, researching and resolving financial issues, reviewing and approving purchase and reimbursement requests, help with the reporting process for various sponsors, assisting with student, postdoc, and staff appointments, tracking faculty effort commitments and facilitating the closeout process of awards.

  Other

  Serve as a back-up for other Chemical Engineering research administrators

  Collaborate and network with peers to learn and share best practices

  Participate in training and volunteer opportunities to maintain a high level of knowledge, skill, and experience.

  Represent the department to other units, administrators, and outside agencies.

  Perform other responsibilities and provide ad hoc reporting.

  Skills You Have

  Candidates at the Intermediate level will have at least 3 years of experience in a related position.

  Candidates at the Senior level will have at least 5 or more years of progressive experience in a related position.

  Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in research administration, accounting or finance.

  Proficient in excel (can perform complex functions) and other financial reporting tools.

  Strong organizational skills enabling the management of multiple proposals and deadlines simultaneously.

  Demonstrated success working in a customer service-focused, team environment and supporting others through empowerment, collaboration, mutual respect, and mentoring.

  Demonstrated commitment to supporting an organizational culture that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

  Desired Qualifications*

  Certified Research Administrator (CRA)

  Knowledge of and experience with University systems and processes

  Experience working with university central offices, such as UMOR, ORSP, Sponsored Programs, etc.

  Familiarity and experience with University administrative and business tools such as Business Objects, MReports and other MPathways systems, Concur, and other tools that ensure oversight and stewardship of financial activity.

  Work Locations

  The Department of Chemical Engineering is committed to providing flexible work arrangements that meet the needs of a diverse workforce while also providing a high level of service to our partners. The Research Administrator position is eligible for remote and flexible work opportunities. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change based on the business. Please note that occasional on-site presence will be required for selected meetings and events.   Signing Bonus

  Candidates who are not currently employed at the College of Engineering may be eligible for up to a $1500 sign-on bonus. College of Engineering candidates for whom this position represents a promotional opportunity may be eligible for up to a $1500 sign-on bonus.
