  We are seeking a manager to join the Modern Systems engineering unit at Sandia National Laboratories. Modern Systems is a multidisciplinary product development team that develops any-scale, high-rigor information & analysis systems for national security missions across the laboratory. We are looking for a new manager capable of bringing these systems development capabilities in software engineering and information technology to new and ongoing satellite data exploitation and communications missions.

  Current and upcoming missions include:

  High rigor 24/7 operational ground system (TAIV antennas)New R&D ground system entering opsPartnerships on AI and software engineering with Automatic Target Recognition (ATR)Future full-stack software work with our Livermore, California site

  On any given day, you may be called on to:Collaborate with a focused team of peer managers to provide vision and mentorship to full-stack/end-to-end development teams who are jointly advancing multiple parallel projects and a production code base of over 1 million source lines of codeLead project teams comprised of multi-disciplinary information technology and software engineers to develop and sustain high consequence systemsWork alongside mission partners in various laboratory centers to define and implement both short and long-term strategies for successful program executionGuide your team in anticipating mission risk, developing and executing on plans for addressing those challengesEnsure that internal and external customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirementsAdvance technical capabilities within the department and across the group through hiring and injection of new technologies and approachesBring personal perspective and technical expertise to guide the current and future needs of laboratory missions and the corresponding direction of Center 6300Occasional travel in support of projects

  Qualifications We Require:

  Education Requirements

  Master's Degree in relevant STEM fields

  Experience RequirementsFour years of relevant technical experience supporting similar software development missionsExperience on, and providing leadership for, software development teams creating mission applicationsExperience managing a light lab, including evaluating safety and security hazardsExperience working in team-oriented highly matrixed leadership envrionmentAbility to obtain and a DOE Q clearance and willingness to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance including a polygraph examination

  Qualifications We Desire:

  Ph.D. in a relevant STEM fieldExperience and familiarity with satellite ground station operations to include satellite downlinksExperience managing a VTR and classified computing environmentsExperience working with satellite constellations and RF communicationsExperience initiating and building teams to position Sandia to meet emerging national technology needsProficiency in software development lifecycle activities (such as specification, development, integration and test, and long-term support)Proven experience in software research and developmentExperience in establishing relationships across the Sandia complexBusiness development experienceProven experience with team leadership and project management (cost, schedule, performance)Experience collaborating with internal or external organizations and building trust-based relationshipsEnthusiasm for discovering innovative, forward-looking approaches that solve unmet mission needsProficiency with structured software development methodologies, tools, and processes, including Agile team structuresProven ability in recruiting and hiring of computer scientists and IT professionalsAbility to travel on occasion

  About Our Team:

  Department 06364, Ground Station Development, Deployment and Data Analytics department is a multidisciplinary engineering team specializing in the capture, dissemination, and processing of satellite data for operational and experimental systems. We have a world-wide network of ground-based processing systems at our disposal and our on-site ground system is leveraged to test new research methods and products prior to customer delivery. Skills and responsibilities within the department include Radio Frequency (RF) engineering, antenna engineering, electronic and mechanical systems, software development - applications and infrastructure, data handling and analysis, device interfaces and control, computing infrastructure management and security, data visualization, and operational systems management.

  Posting Duration:

  This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

  Security Clearance:

  Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

  Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

  If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
