  SUMMARY

  The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. The R&D Engineer II will join a team of engineers, physicists, and computer scientists developing high performance, asymptotic electromagnetic simulators for antenna radiation, scattering, and propagation problems, including existing products (HFSS) and novel products targeting automotive radar, wireless communications, and new application domains. The R&D Engineer II will collaborate with members of the asymptotics team and multi-disciplinary teams across the company to develop, test, and deploy cutting edge simulation products.

  RESPONSIBILITIES

  Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systemsUnderstands and employs best practicesPerforms moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutionsUnderstands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issuesWorks under the general supervision of a development managerPerforms software development for commercial-grade EM simulators based primarily on C++, supplemented with Python and MATLAB scripting and prototypingPerforms problem solving, model development, and algorithm design in computational electromagnetics, ray tracing, radar signal processing, and scientific visualization, with an emphasis on shooting-and-bouncing rays methodPerforms maintenance and improvement of automated software build and testing systems, with emphasis on software qualityProvides written and oral communication within and across teams, including in-person and virtual presentationsProvides occasional customer support in situations demanding more detailed technical consultation

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related field with 2 years' experience or MS/PhDWorking experience with scientific or engineering software development for physics-based simulation, physics-based model development, algorithm development.

  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  Technical knowledge and experience with C++ (strongly preferred), numerical analysis, and some combination of Python, MATLAB, object-oriented design, and general purpose scriptingMS or PhD in engineering, physical science, or applied mathematics. Will consider BS based on skills and experience.Background in electromagnetics. Physics, applied math, or other similar background also considered as alternative.Experience with GPU coding to accelerate numeric computations.Signal processing experience or coursework.Experience using software configuration management systems, such as Git.Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environmentGood communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team

  Location

  Evanston, IL or Champaign, IL preferred. Will consider other Ansys North America locations based on experience and demonstrated ability to work independently.
