Job Description:The Radiation Therapist is responsible for administration ofionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes in accordance with theprescription of the Radiation Oncologist and is accountable for the simulationof patients in preparation of radiation therapy, basic patient care andeducation.

Scope
Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification. Explainsprocedures to the patients, reinforcing the radiation oncologists and/ornurses instructions regarding reactions to the treatment and their care.
Prepares room and equipment for the patient according to the prescription,i.e., immobilization devices, blocks, field sizes etc. Transferspatients as needed.
Verifies the treatment Mus and beam energy in the treatment chart noting anyprescribed adjustments. Documents treatment Mus cumulative dose, sitespecific doses, treatment parameters, instructions, diagrams,photos, and all billing information.
Performs treatment simulation and all that it requires for procedure(including cerrobend block fabrication). Develops x-rays and port films asneeded, filing as needed. Observes and inquires of the patient any unusualreactions or events.
Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness of the unit. Maintainsappropriate stock levels.
Completes daily, progress and discharge documentation according todepartmental standards. Accurately documents productivity information.
Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives. Identifies potentialareas for improvement including processes that could be streamlined or revisedto improve patient satisfaction. Identifies potential safety hazards that maycreate problems for patients and/or staff, and takes appropriate actions.Documents patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in themedical record as directed by the provider. Escalates non-routine issues,questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcareprovider(s). Ensures safety checklists/quality controls are completed asrequir
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program
ARRT and RT(T) certifications in radiation therapy and current license instate of practice
Current BLS certification
Physical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and readinformation, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identifyequipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient careproviders, patients, and visitors that require employee to verballycommunicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms,needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencysituations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complexand delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequentcomputer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing neededinformation, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift andutilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend toretrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes itemsof varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk andassist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributingsupplies and equipment.
