JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Animal Diagnostic Laboratory (ADL) at Penn State (https://psu.edu) , one of the three laboratories of the Pennsylvania Animal Laboratory Diagnostic System (PADLS), is seeking applicants for its Quality Manager (QM) position. This position reports to the ADL Director and is responsible for ensuring that the ADL produces accurate, reliable, and repeatable diagnostic test results through the implementation of a valid and efficient Quality Management system. The QM also helps to ensure that the ADL and PADLS meet or exceed all of the quality standards required for accreditation by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) and maintains membership in the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Managing the Quality Management System of the ADL, including oversight of the quality manual and diagnostic standard operating procedures, equipment calibration and maintenance, training, implementation of corrective actions and planned deviations.
Serving as the primary point of contact for the quality-related aspects of the NAHLN for the ADL.
Effective collaboration with the QMs at the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory and the New Bolton Center to manage the overall PADLS Quality Management System.
Serving as the ADL safety officer and facility coordinator.
This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with excellent possibility of ongoing funding.
Education and Experience:
This QM position will be filled as a Compliance Specialist Level 2 or 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typical requirements for a Level 2 include a Bachelor's degree or higher, plus 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Level 3 position requires additional experience and/or education.
The ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team in a busy laboratory environment, acquire and implement new skills and techniques, and simultaneously handle numerous tasks and responsibilities are expected. Laboratory quality management experience, as well as familiarity and proficiency with data and document management software utilized in diagnostic laboratories is highly desirable. Other experience relevant to this position, such as benchtop skills, veterinary medical laboratory, and/or related agribusiness experience is preferred.
