JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for inspection and identification of non-conforming product and workmanship in the fabrication and assembly (including electrical and painting) functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects customer-supplied materials to ensure product received is in compliance with legend and drawings.
Inspects all jobs in production at mandatory hold points to ensure work is being completed per company Policy and Procedures.
Records job progression on checklist designed for Quality Assurance; assures correct materials are used as identified on outline/legend.
Performs final inspection to assure the job is defined by the outline/legend and drawings,
Assure procedures have been followed; verifies all material has been packed and identified on the packing list prior to shipment.
Maintains complete and accurate records and documentation of test/inspection activities.
Assists and or facilitates on continuous improvement programs.
Coordinates with shop supervisors and engineering departments to correct quality problems and determine corrective actions.
Supports the quality system and assist the QA Manager in updating and revising quality procedures and work instructions.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
HS diploma or GED required.
Minimum 2 years of experience in the switchgear industry required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Equipment:
Measuring tape, calculator, calipers, micrometers, gauges, AC/DC hi-pot test equipment, motorized vehicles of up to 26,000 GVW; forklift, man lift, tape measure, general hand tools, and general office equipment (telephone, computer, fax, copier, calculator, etc.)
Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of hi-pot testing of electrical equipment.
Basic understanding of fundamental requirements under OSHA, EPA, and labor law guidelines.
Basic interpretation of AWS welding codes, IEEE, ANSI, and NEC guidelines.
Proficient in reading tape measurements, blueprints, and wiring schematics.
Knowledge of quality control principles and functions.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Able to read and interpret technical documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, safety regulations, etc.
Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid objective conclusions.
Requires regular onsite attendance during scheduled shift and overtime as required.
Physical Demands: Spends more than 2/3 of time standing and talking/hearing. Lifts/positions items weighing an average of 20 lbs. 1/3 to 2/3 of time. Spends 1/3 to 2/3 of time walking, using hands, and reaching. Less than 1/3 of time is spent climbing, stooping, crawling, and sitting. Generally, requires clear vision at close distances (for reading and inspecting). Clear distance/peripheral vision is required for driving and operating equipment. Color vision (for reading prints, identifying wire color, etc.) is also needed.
