  APPLYThe Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics engages in cutting-edge research, training and teaching to solve basic questions in the life sciences and to apply biological knowledge to critical medical, agricultural and environmental problems.The Technician III will conduct research in the Pugh Lab which aims to uncover fundamental molecular mechanisms of eukaryotic gene regulation. The Pugh Lab studies how the transcription machinery assembles at promoters and the role that enhancers play in accelerating this assembly. We use yeast and mammalian cell models and combine genetics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics approaches.   The Laboratory Technician III provides a wide variety technical lab support by performing a broad range of moderately complex laboratory and research related tasks. The Pugh lab developed ChIP-exo technology to understand how all nuclear proteins work together to regulate genomes and apply this knowledge towards better diagnosis and management of human diseases.

  The Lab Technician has the following responsibilities:

  Growth of mammalian cell lines in culture (suspension and adherent) using appropriate sterile technique.Process mammalian organs to provide cells for experiments.Prepare chromatin, prepare DNA libraries and sample tracking through a LIMS.Conduct molecular biology experiments according to established protocols, with supervision by the lab manager, and oversight by Dr. Pugh.Provide support for lab maintenance, ordering supplies, and university compliance as directed by the lab manager.

  Please note that this position is 39 hours per week, with a one-year appointment, subject to renewal based on performance and available funding.

  Required Qualifications:

  Associate's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related area, and 1-2 years of experience working in a molecular biology laboratory or equivalent combination of education and experience.Candidate must understand biochemistry, molecular biology, and genomic principles at a basic level and demonstrate proficiency in molecular biology experimentation (e.g., excellence in relevant coursework or relevant work experience).Have experience with mammalian cell culture and possess excellent sterile technique and demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure in performing time-sensitive assays requiring close concentration.Candidate must be willing to learn new laboratory skills and improve existing skills. Additional skills required include an ability to resolve most problems under very general supervision, attention to detail, being a team player, and effective communication skills (written and verbal).Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
