  This is an Open Career Service position with the Department of Health in Lee County.

  This is specialized work under the direction of the Nutrition Program Director in a WIC unit. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and provisions of nutrition services of the Pondella WIC clinic site. It requires a high degree of accuracy, involves close interaction with other personnel of the county health department, and maintenance of confidentiality. Responsible for the supervision of staff Including appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. Travel to all sites may be involved in the performance of duties. This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. It may require implementation of the Department’s Limited English Proficiency Plan. Performs other duties as required.

  SUPERVISION: Oversees the Pondella WIC site operation. Supervises and supports clinic staff. Coordinates site assigned employees and distribution of all services with other supervisors within the Lee WIC Project. Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction. Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, and discipline action, if needed. Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training.

  NUTRITION RISK DETERMINATION AND DOCUMENTATION: Determines nutrition risk eligibility of clients in accordance with DHM 150-24. Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines. Correctly identifies all high-risk clients, completing an individual high-risk care plan using the SOAP format.

  NUTRITION EDUCATION: Provides individual nutrition education contacts, adapts nutrition education content based on need of the client using the VENA concept to provide appropriate nutritional counseling

  NUTRITION SERVICES AND REFERRAL DOCUMENTATION: Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines. As necessary, refers client to appropriate outside agency, documenting referral. Accruately completes FL-WiSE System data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided.

  BREASTFEEDING: Protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding; assures local site reflects a Breastfeeding Friendly atmosphere. Assists with organization and maintenance of breastfeeding supplies for site and issues manual breastpumps per Local Agency guidelines. Promotes breastfeeding classes with all prenatal clients. Refers clients to Breastfeeding team as needed.

  ADMINISTRATIVE: Completes assigned administrative projects and reports in a timely fashion. Participates in Quality Assurance activities

  This position has the responsibility of being the Information Custodian for the Pondella WIC information set and will perform related duties as defined in DOHP 50-10.

  This position has the responsibility of being the Key Custodian for the Pondella WIC secure area(s) at the Pondella WIC location and will perform related duties as defined in DOHP 50-10.

  OTHER: Participates in on-going nutrition education activities with local agency. Provides nutrition education and general services at Outreach events.

  Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  Knowledge of principles, practices & office procedures

  Knowledge of the principles & techniques of records management

  Knowledge of planning principles & techniques

  Skill in operating a personal computer

  Ability to provide nutrition education for individuals and groups

  Ability to assess nutritional status and develop basic nutrition plans

  Ability to teach and develop or select education materials

  Ability to operate general office equipment

  Ability to train others & deal effectively with a variety of people

  Ability to follow office procedures & practices

  Ability to organize & maintain filing systems

  Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous & effective manner

  Ability to plan, organize & coordinate work assignments & communicate effectively verbally & in writing

  Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationship with others

  Ability to understand, interpret & apply applicable rules, regulations, policies & procedures

  Ability to prioritize individual workload, prepare reports & maintain records

  Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods of time

  Ability to frequently use telephone, computer, copier and small hand tools, i.e.; stapler, scissors, etc.

  Ability to work with occasional loud noises

  Ability to lift & carry up to 50 pounds as needed

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24, Chapter 6, Section 6-5b. and/or Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 21m, Section 48.001, 48.002, or 48.003, Florida Administrative Code, or be working toward satisfactory completion of required supervised experience component of Section 468.509, Florida Statutes, and have one year of professional experience in public health nutrition. A master's degree from a U.S. accredited college or U.S. university in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition may substitute for the required professional experience.

  Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 21M, Sections 48.001, 48.002, 48.003, Florida Administrative Code.

  Other job-related requirements for this position:

  Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

  This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.

  Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties.

  Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.

  Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.

  Transporting Confidential Information: This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.
