  A Brief OverviewThe Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DCAPBS) at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a psychologist with expertise in early childhood.

  The primary role of the Psychologist is to carry out psychological and developmental assessments of infants and young children enrolled through Neonatal Follow-Up Programand to provide guidance and support for the families of these children. The Neonatal Follow-up Program (NFP) is made up of an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, physical therapists and a social worker. TheNFP provides services to children who were born prematurely or have other neonatal illnesses and spent time in the CHOP or affiliated NICUs.The services in the NFP include comprehensive developmental and psychological assessments, medical, physical and neuro-motor evaluations by medical staff and parent support through screening and counseling, The Psychologist is encouraged to participate in teaching and training activities through our APA-accredited clinical psychology training program and ACGME accredited child and adolescent psychiatry training programs.

  The specific role of the psychologist includes performing clinical assessments, diagnostic interviews, in-depth interpretation of findings in the context of medical, family and environmental history, providing detailed feedback to the family at the time of the visit, giving families support and advice regarding developmental, behavioral and other concerns for both at home activities and referrals to community services, and preparing reports for parents, community agencies/schools, and healthcare colleagues documenting findings, impressions, diagnoses and recommendations.Children in NFP range in age from 3 months to 6 years, with a primary focus on infants and toddlers 6 months-30 months. The assessment protocol includes a standardized battery that is modified to meet the needs ofspecific children.The role of the psychologist will also include participation in interdisciplinary team meetings, participation in quality improvement projects, performing research visits as needed, demonstrating research certification standards and collaboration with other psychologists in the program.

  In addition to the role of providing outpatient clinical care in NFP, there are opportunities for diversification of effort that could include participation in neonatal clinical research (participation in the development, conduct, and scientific output of Federally-funded and/or foundation-funded studies), trainee education, counseling, therapy, inpatient clinical care in the NICU, and quality improvement projects.The Psychologist I provides psychological services to patients throughout the CHOP inpatient and ambulatory enterprise; participa es in the educational experience of trainees; establishes plan and initiates professional growth and leadership within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, and presents work at the local or regional level. In some settings, the psychologist may have a matrixed reporting relationship to a physician leader outside the Department.

Schedule must include enough openings to cover productivity expectations plus anticipated late cancellations/no shows.Assures that professional practice is in accordance with applicable professional and licensing body standardsFollows all CHOP and Departmental policies and procedures regarding clinical and administrative activity associated with providing direct patient careCollaborationCollaborates within the Department and with other Department/Division colleagues to assure that patients receive the kind of care required by patient circumstance.Responds to requests for consultation and service in a timely manner.Participates in The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences committeesWorks collaboratively with the program's intake coordinators and practice manager to assure there is sufficient scheduling availability and patients are scheduled appropriatelyTeachingMay provide supervision to trainees (including externs, interns, and/or fellows) within the Department's psychology training programsLectures and provides training to other disciplines (including child psychiatry)Participates in activities of the training facultyOtherCompletes all mandatory education requirements, annual PPD testing, flu vaccine and other vaccinations as per CHOP policyMaintain Licensure including completion of required continuing educationEstablishes plans for professional growth with managerParticipates in clinical program developmentCollaborates with internal staff to complete CHOP requirements to include but not limited to Medical Staff ApplicationMember and or active participation in a DCAPBS or CHOP CommitteePresents work locally or regionally; publishes or presents at least one paper /chapter yearlyParticipates in community serviceParticipates in ongoing professional practice evaluations as a clinician and peer reviewerEducation QualificationsDoctorate Psychology RequiredExperience QualificationsCompleted postdoctoral training directly related to job role with APA or CPA accredited internship training Required andCompleted post-doctoral training in child and adolescent focused psychology Level I 0-7 years RequiredSkills and AbilitiesExcellent interpersonal skillsSkill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving, decision-making.Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with medical, and administrative staff, patients and the public.Epic trainingAbility to communicate effectively in writing and
