Job ID12271LocationCase Main CampusFull/Part TimeFull-TimeRegular/TemporaryRegularJob DescriptionPOSITION OBJECTIVEWorking under limited supervision, the Proposal Manager for the Institute for Smart, Secure and Connected Systems (ISSACS) leads, plans and schedules all proposal activities of the Institute, working closely with principal investigators from across all eight schools of Case Western Reserve University, as well as external investigators and partner organizations. The proposal manager has primary responsibility for the development of research proposals for federal and state government agencies, corporations, foundations, and other funding sources. The proposal manager also has primary responsibility to build and maintain the systems and processes for proposal management within the Institute.The proposal manager is a key member and contributor on faculty teams as they identify and cultivate ideas. Duties range from identifying strategic funding sources and opportunities, to developing strategies for successful proposals, to development of narrative components for proposals that contribute to the larger story and project. As a member of the ISSACS team, the proposal manager is expected to work collegially and in partnership with colleagues across campus as well as other universities and partners. This thought leader envisions the big picture without overlooking the details, fosters a positive and responsive team environment, and quickly adjusts to dynamic proposal development schedules and requirements.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSServe as an authority and resource in research proposal development. Manage the successful development of compliant, competitive, cogent, and compelling research proposals, from identifying opportunities through proposal submission for Federal and State government agencies, corporations, foundations, and other funding sources. Apply experience and best practices in proposal management to ensure the timely delivery of proposal submissions that are fully compliant with solicitation instructions. Manage timelines and deliverables across several concurrent proposals for timely submission. Create solicitation-specific templates based on proposal evaluation criteria and distribute them to all proposal participants. Coordinate and support the development of narratives, budgets, budget justifications, and supplementary materials, as well as proposal-specific responsibility task lists. Support proposal pre-award processes at Case Western Reserve University, including coordination with research administration staff and internal processes and systems (e.g., SPARTA). Resolve questions on solicitation guidelines with sponsor. Assemble, proofread, and verify proposal compliance to solicitation guidelines. Prepare and lead efficient kick-off meetings and status calls, ensuring activities adhere to the proposal development plan. Work with the principal investigator to determine writing assignments amongst proposal participants and integrate "win" strategies, themes, and discriminators into the proposal. Provide insight and work guidance to participants on all aspects of the proposal content. Take ownership of the quality of the proposal for reviews and final delivery by performing rigorous quality assurance checks on draft and final documents. Ensure the high-quality content and appearance of final proposal deliverables. (40%)Expertly source strategic and relevant research funding opportunities for Institute affiliated faculty from across pertinent agencies (e.g., NSF, DOE, DOD, NIH, NIST, EDA). Identify funding opportunities based on a broad range of faculty interests and expertise from across the university in areas aligned with Institute priorities and objectives. Keep current on relevant legislation and its impact on future research funding opportunities and trends. Monitor agency communications for upcoming funding
