About Project Manager

New York is leading the nation in the fight on global climate change and the transition to a clean energy-powered economy. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) (https://climate.ny.gov/) has created the most aggressive climate change goals in the nation and requires an ambitious agenda that blends proven catalysts with innovative approaches while operating across a broader energy arena that is rapidly evolving. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.

Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

  Job Overview

NYSERDA seeks a creative, self-motivated, and knowledgeable individual to be responsible for energy sector modeling and analyses, with a focus on the buildings sector. The selected candidate should have strong quantitative analysis, energy sector modeling, and communication skills as well as project management experience.

This position will support energy market analysis and tracking of alternative energy market trends as part of the Energy Markets team within. The Energy Markets program monitors the State of New York’s energy supply, evaluates energy workforce trends, and supports broader NYSERDA efforts to transition away from natural gas and other fossil fuels. This position will also support intelligence gathering around conventional and alternative energy and the current state of energy markets in New York, supporting energy preparedness and comprehensive situational awareness of energy supply, pricing, and evolving market dynamics. This position will feature ongoing internal collaboration with NYSERDA teams along with external coordination with the New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) and utilities across the state.

  Primary Responsibilities

Assess energy market price trends, price, and use forecasts, supply-demand dynamics, and potential fuel supply infrastructure constraints that would require government response.

Provide market intelligence on alternative fuels, especially hydrogen and bioenergy, and evaluate their potential role in decarbonizing New York’s economy.

Help conceptualize and perform data analyses summarizing trends and modeling impacts for both internal and external stakeholders. Translate modeling results into clear visual representations.

Support essential NYSERDA deliverables, including the State Energy Plan, potential studies, and other major projects intended to deliver on the state’s energy and climate goals.

Support ongoing pricing surveys for delivered heating fuels across New York

Contribute to energy emergency preparedness in collaboration with the Energy Resilience and Emergency Preparedness team

Apply knowledge of energy systems infrastructures, reliability requirements, and market dynamics to inform policy or project formation, and to represent NYSERDA at various forums to provide expert knowledge of New York State system requirements or desired policy outcomes.

Serve as an energy systems expert resource to NYSERDA workforce, energy efficiency and renewable energy program staff and provide information and insight to help inform the development of clean energy programs.

Manage external contractor teams engaged in analysis on behalf of NYSERDA as well as participate in and lead teams from NYSERDA and other State agencies to advance projects.

Support tracking of metrics and reporting on accomplishments

Periodically serve as mentor to student interns or program support staff

  Perform other responsibilities as assigned

  Minimum Qualifications

5 years of relevant experience in energy, utilities, or other related fields

A bachelor’s degree in economics, public administration, or a related field

Skill in managing multiple diverse activities simultaneously, operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment

  Strong work ethic and integrity

Proven presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds and the ability to communicate accurately, persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously in speech and in writing

  Preferred Qualifications

  A master’s degree in a relevant field

Experience with New York State’s regulatory environment and energy system

Experience and background in building electrification, efficiency, and decarbonization

Knowledge of energy system databases such as NEMS

Experience in reporting, storytelling, and data visualization technologies such as Tableau, Shiny, Bokeh
