Description of Work Unit
Provide administrative, management & professional services to facilitate and accomplish new construction, renovation, and/or replacement of the physical facilities and infrastructure of the campus in support of the University’s mission and strategic plan.
Position Summary
This position exists to provide basic support to remodel project management services involving alteration, modification, maintenance and repair of state buildings. This position provides assistance to Project Management I and II positions and Engr/Phys Sci Tech Ill positions (fully-operating project managers) who are responsible for accurate estimating, scheduling, problem resolution and completion of projects. This position also is required to follow established standards and processes when resolving maintenance and repair problems while ensuring compliance with state and university rules; acts as backup to section liaisons who operate between the facility users, trades personnel, contractors and supervisory Facilities personnel; uses knowledge of all trades areas to provide technical construction advise; and maintains accord with all involved on issues of planning, specifications, scheduling, and completion of projects by keeping open and factual lines of communication with all parties involved. Projects are usually funded at no more than $2,000,000.00 unless approved by the Associate VP Facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the application materials:
High School diploma or GED certificate;
four years of general construction experience, which must have included one year of experience assisting with the construction project management process (project scope development; project design development; project consulting; budget development; scheduling; and/or compliance)
Substitutions
The following may substitute for the minimum qualifications of this position:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field (Civil Engineering; Structural Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or Electrical Engineering), from an accredited, non correspondence college or university, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required general construction experience, but not for the one year of experience assisting with the construction project management process.Preferred Qualifications
The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field (Civil Engineering; Structural Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or Electrical Engineering), from an accredited, non correspondence college or university
Certifications related to construction management
Experience with: using Microsoft Projects, estimating construction, material take-offs, and scheduling.
Enhanced knowledge of State and CSU construction policies and procedures.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well with many work partners including facility users, trades personnel, contractors and others
Skilled in maintaining accord with all involved on issues of planning, specifications, scheduling and completion of projects by keeping open and clear lines of communication
Experience providing support in the alteration, modification, maintenance and repair of buildings
Able and willing to balance a demanding work schedule that changes in intensity throughout the year
