DESCRIPTION:
The Financial Aid Processing and Special Circumstances PS3 works in the financial aid office under general direction and reports to the Executive Director. The nature of the work is professional and requires an ability to work independently, interpret and work in accordance with federal, state, and college policies, procedures, and regulations, and to coordinate with the other financial aid programs to ensure college administrative capability is maintained. The position performs highly complex duties and operates at the journey or fully qualified level, as defined by OFM.
This position independently administers all regulatory aspects needed to process student financial aid files, evaluates documentation using professional judgment, as defined by the Department of Education (ED), and maintains staff accountability for the review of student application files to ensure timely offers of aid to students. The PS3 also uses professional judgment as defined by the Department of Education to evaluate documentation and make a determination related to requests for consideration of special circumstances. This position is also a lead over others in the office related to preliminary file review and file processing for award offers.
The Financial Aid PS3 also works on assigned projects, which includes but is not limited to the processing of federal, state, and college financial aid offers to eligible students. A working knowledge of the often conflicting student eligibility regulations for all the financial aid programs, and the ability to evaluate and analyze the federal (FAFSA) and state (WASFA) applications, along with required documentation is a key function of this position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure that the review and processing of student files is organized, follows all federal and state regulations, results in staff accountability in meeting processing standards so that offers of aid are sent to students by the stated deadlines
Complete or assign the review of student requests for application or budget changes based on special circumstances within the federal regulatory time frames
Participate with the other financial aid program PS3's in the development of an organizational calendar to ensure that federal and state deadlines are met, and files are processed as expected
