Fairfax-Falls Church Community Service Board (CSB) is hiring its first full-time Advocate Ombuds! This position will assist individuals served by the CSB and their families in resolving service-related concerns. This includes the entire scope of CSB services at all service locations: Mental Health, Substance Use, and Developmental. The Ombuds serves as a voice, champion, and guide for individuals served and family members. Advocates for inclusion in service decisions, prompt resolution of complaints, and the maintenance of protected rights. Liaises with CSB staff at multiple levels in meeting this mission.
The Ombuds will coordinate a "dispute resolution" line, conduct informal dispute resolution processes, offer guidance on accessing CSB services, and referral to formal processes when appropriate. In addition to directly providing this support for complex situations, they will establish, train, and oversee a volunteer Ombuds program. Volunteer Advocate Ombuds are community members who assist in providing education and informal dispute resolution assistance to individuals in designated CSB programs. This work is accomplished in collaboration with the CSB volunteer coordinator.
Establishes and coordinates Advisory Councils, including a Behavioral Health Advisory Council, consisting of individuals with lived experience receiving CSB services. Serves as a liaison with CSB leadership and the Advisory Councils in providing feedback on program development and implementation, assessing impacts on those served, and offering recommendations for enhancement. Acts as a liaison to community stakeholder advocacy groups and other stakeholders.
Advise Senior Leadership and management on effective problem resolution techniques, and closely collaborate with service divisions, compliance, and risk management teams in resolving concerns. In overseeing the informal dispute resolution processes, they will identify and address patterns of complaints and ensure follow-through by CSB staff in reaching solutions. Provides related training and education to CSB staff, and community members as needed.

MINIMUIM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in social services or human services, or with major course work in a specialty that confers within a community-based service delivery setting (for example, child development and family studies, education, public administration, recreation), or other related field; plus five years of professional experience in the social services, human services, or other community-based service delivery service or setting; two of which included supervising professional staff. A master's degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire
This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years working in a mental health, substance use disorder, developmental disability, or other healthcare service system.
2+ years managing social service, mental health, substance use disorder, and/or developmental disability programs.
2+ years of experience coordinating complaint and problem resolution processes and procedures.
2+ years of experience providing advocacy and assisting individuals in navigating complex behavioral health, substance use disorder, developmental disability systems or other healthcare systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing and lift up to 15 pounds. Must be able to independently transport self and fulfill duties at other sites as needed. Work is generally sedentary. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
