Objectives:
The Design Engineer III will be responsible for the design and development of surgical ophthalmic medical devices for the implantation of IOLs in the capsular bag, and for design and development of fixtures needed for the assembly of respective ophthalmic devices, through internal and external development and external scientific collaborations. The position is responsible for assisting the Company’s R&D programs by developing R&D plans and ensure that the approved plans are executed on time, within quality guidelines, and within budget.
Responsibliities:
Design, development and verification/validation of IOL Insertion systems for B&L Surgical Business.
Design IOL Insertion systems (SolidWorks, Catia, or similar CAD systems)
Generate CAD/CAE files for new products; including individual components, sub-assembly and final assembly.
Generate CAD/CAE new product packaging components and final product design packaging configurations.
Generate fixture(s) system for individual components metrology, For components sub-assembly and for full new IOLs assembly devices.
Convert concept(s) to 3D model for proof of concept evaluation.
Initiate and confirm proof of new concept(s) using 3D printed prototypes, Machine prototypes, or prototypes produced in single cavity tools.
Capable of selecting plastics or metal materials to initiate first level of component prototypes.
Initiate feasibility assessment for internal and external concepts.
Perform statistical data analysis.
Support injection Molding tool qualifications. Generate tool qualification reports.
Generate protocols, execute DOEs, write high quality reports, release qualified designs for development.
Support Clinical Affair activities.
Support RA submissions.
Support Marketing on new product Launch.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
Experience using Solidworks/CAD to design medical devices.
Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and modeling.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical
Knowledge of design for manufacturing.
Basic knowledge of plastics and Metals.
Knowledge of injection molding tool designs.
Knowledge of multicavity injection molding tool qualification.
Knowledge of stack analysis.
Ability to use statistical models a strong plus. (Minitab).
Capability of generating conceptual designs for IOLs and IOL Insertion devices.
