Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
The Azure Data databases blue team is hiring a PRINCIPAL SOFTWARE ENGINEER. Our team is responsible for the monitoring and detection of potential security breaches in the Azure Data databases platforms. It is a highly collaborative team that works closely with both a corresponding red team and the product teams to ensure that the right signals and alerts are in place. The Azure Data databases blue team is at the core of building customer trust. We solve big data problems to keep our customers protected. The Azure Data databases production fleet is over 1 million nodes. The Azure Data databases revenue is over $10 billion dollars. Our telemetry emits signals from every node, every customer in the fleet.

Responsibilities
Security Monitoring
Build security telemetry that can scale to a 1M+ node fleet
Build detections on that telemetry to detect intrusions based on the latest threat research.
Security Incident Response
Assess the threat level of incident based on impact and ease of exploit.
Coordinate across the organization when multiple services are impacted
Security Assurance
Understand current security trends and vulnerabilities.
Participate in security design reviews and threat model reviews prior to the release of new products or features, communicating clearly the different security options and tradeoffs.
Deliver broadly available security trainings based on learnings from previous exercises or incidents.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
1+ Years of software security experience

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Passion and previous experience software security.
Collaboration and communication experience working in a matrix organization.
Previous experience in database technology.
Previous experience in cloud technology.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
